Exploring the traditional town Arachova

Hey everyone, at the beginning I would like to welcome you to my new post and hope you are all doing well! Also today I decided to take the time to share something about one of my experience in Greece.

About two hours from Athens you can found the small mountain town of Arachova which is known for the artistic flair and I have connected the visit to the city with the Oracle of Delphi which is located in the immediate vicinity. Although only a few thousand people live in Arachova, this idyllic place attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year and tourism is an important source of income for the village and there are numerous possibilities to spend the time here. It's probably one of the most famous cities in the Mount Parnassus and it's almost impossible to get lost here because the whole city is relatively centrally located on only one main road. Even though the whole town has adapted a lot to tourism and there are many shops or localities where people can leave their money, it also has an important historical background and the breathtaking architecture with all the old stone houses is simply unique. It can also be described as a traditional place of artists in which the craftsmanship is deeply rooted and the first traces of the creation can be traced back to the Middle Ages, where a lot of trade was once carried out here. Even if the first thought might suggest, it is not a typical Greek village and once different cultures met here and can also be described as a kind of centre and another important historical moment which had taken place here was a battle during the Greek war for independence in the 19th century.

It has been an interesting experience to visit this place, but the visit of this town alone would not have been very worthwhile for me, which is why I have combined it with the Oracle of Delphi and I can also recommend in any case to combine both places in order to use the day as efficiently as possible. My trip started early in the morning and lasted until the evening and those who are travelling from Athens absolutely have to bring a lot of time and should plan the whole day and in addition to the cultural aspects, it was also a perfect change from the otherwise very stressful climate of the large city of Athens and it was also important for me to get to know the mountains in Greece. For people who should be interested in a longer stay, there is also the possibility to book accommodation here and this is especially popular during the winter months in which Arachova turns into a winter village, but it's known throughout the whole year as a popular destination.

Many thanks for the visit and I hope you could learn something new about this place! I captured these pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens and iPhone 16.
