My Actifit Report Card: April 16 2024

We finally found the necessary screws to attach the OSB boards to the joists. After some work, we went to our site to start the installation. From what we've seen online, it's recommended to place a screw every 20 centimeters, but that seemed excessive for our 10m² space. Therefore, we decided to place one every 30 centimeters, which seems reasonable to me.

For screwing, I use an 18-volt electric drill that I received for Christmas. Since there are two of us, we also have a manual screwdriver. However, screwing in 100 screws by hand can quickly become painful, so I went up to get my aunt's electric drill from her house.

Hers is 12 volts, and we quickly noticed the difference in power compared to mine.

A little lesson: if you plan to do some work, consider investing in good tools. It can save you a lot of time and make the job easier, especially if it's not the last time you'll need them.

With my aunt's drill, we could screw into the OSB and the joists, but to fully drive the screws in, we had to go over them with the 18-volt drill.

While going down, I took the opportunity to bring down two batches of parquet flooring to acclimate to the temperature of our tiny house, as recommended for 48 hours before laying. There are still eight batches to bring down, and it's quite heavy without a handle.

We also had to think about how to know where to aim the screws without seeing the joists under the non-transparent boards. We solved this problem by marking the locations of the joists on the walls, then placing a straight piece of wood between the marks on the OSB to indicate the location of the joists underneath.

Once everything was screwed in, we had fun unpacking a batch of parquet flooring to lay them side by side to see how it would look.

When we placed the first one, we realized that we didn't really like the color anymore. Then we put down the second one next to it and got really scared because none of the boards had the same color.

In fact, we added four more to get a better overview and it really brings a rustic charm to not have exactly the same colors. It looks much more natural and I think we are going to like it.

We should still paint the walls white, even though we plan to leave the beams black. Otherwise, it might be too much "wood on wood."

Later, we went to dinner at my aunt's, worked on our business projects, and took my aunt's dog to the vet for a suspicious mass near her trachea. The vet mentioned it could be an abscess due to an impact or bite, or a tumor, but further tests are necessary to confirm.

By the way, the veterinary clinic had a really beautiful view.
