I'm not into talking about every little detail of my life with people who aren't actually in it; it's partly about security - information is power - and that I don't think what I do, or do not do, is all that relevant or interesting to others. This means there's loads of things I don't tell people and certainly when it comes to Hive only small snippets of what I do and what's going on in my life ever make it here, I just don't think communicating it all is the right thing to do.
I've not spoken about my nephew @mrbonkers here much lately but, of course, I speak to him multiple times a week. He's going really well, growing up fast and changing rapidly as well. I love exchanging the latest happenings with him.
He's getting super-good on the BMX track and is now doing regular enduro-racing as well, longer races sort of like downhill mountain biking. He's learning so fast too; English, math, reading and writing, violin and just learning how to be himself in general; conversing with him is so enjoyable and always makes me laugh to see his personality developing, the faces he pulls and jokes he tells and how funny he is generally. All that happens via video chats because he lives a long way from where I am, but it's good nonetheless.
We communicate a lot on the phone, voice and video chats and we exchange videos as well but we also write letters to each other.
He checks the mailbox every single day hoping for a letter from me so I keep them coming, not every day though, and I get one in return once or twice a month, usually a drawing and some words. In return, I draw some things (badly because I'm terrible at drawing) and send it off with a few words as well knowing he'll get a buzz out of getting mail much like I did when I was his age. It's a nice connection and I like that we share it.
Digital communication is preferred these days; it's instant, free (sort of) and is easier than writing a letter, stamping envelopes and going to the post box. I like the old-school method as well though, hand-written notes seem more personal and have more character. My nephew is the only one I communicate in writing with like this and I enjoy it greatly; I save each letter and look forward to showing him them all down the track when he is much older.
Have you ever communicated by mail and hand-written letters like this?
