My Actifit Report Card: February 14 2024

The snow continues to quickly melt in the lowlands as the thermometer was near 60 degrees F under a bright and sunny sky.

As you can see the walking path up on the field part of our morning route has seen a lot of the snow melt but now there were several very slick icy sections where the melt water had frozen overnight. Even Lulu lost her footing a couple of times as did I, but neither of us took a spill. Lulu loved running along on the packed snow and had to stop several times for her customary roll in the snow.

I'm glad she wanted to scamper so that our pace was quick and the 2 miles zipped by.
I decided to hike down to Lynx Creek to check on the forest eoad conditions and see what the creek looked like. We parked at the top of the road and gingerly hiked down the messy and still slick dirt road to the icy creek.

The creek was flowing nicely as we scampered across onto the packed snow for a hike upstream. The snow had a thick crust that supported Lulu easily and made my hiking easier.
There were no campers or other folks out there but large tracks on the snow showed that turkeys had been there after the last snowstorm.

We hiked up the narrow trail along the creek for about a mile before heading back where the rocky ravine narrowed became a bit too tricky to navigate. The return portion was along the old road so it was smoother sailing back towards the road.

Wr added on another mile around the area before slogging back up the road to our car. Nice hike in the woods on a nice day and plenty of good exercise for me (and fun in the snow for Lulu).
