It is a burden trying to control someone behavior but don't you ever apologize if you are rude trying to refuse to be disrespected or to be mistreated because you also have your standard, you don't need to stoop so low just to please others because you can't control how people behave, you can only control how you react to their behavior.
Reject what ever you don't want no matter the circumstances because if you don't reject it at that moment, it will be very hard for you to reject when you are already used to it but not comfortable with it so just reject it while you can and don't fear what the consequences might be.
