As much as possible, be aware of the fact that social media is highly harmful. Though it of of great importance, so important that the human person cannot do without it but it is yet harmful. To enable one escape these harmful effects of social media, he or she must learn to use them rightly.
ENSURING RIGHT USAGE
Most people are already addicted to social media and more are yet to. As much as possible, ensure that you do not become one of them, ensure that you moderate you social media usage. No matter what you do, do not allow the social media world affect either your productivity or your communication with the outside world. You must be disciplined enough to control when and when not to engage with the social media world.
As much as possible, you must consider the contents that you consume as a social media user. This is quite difficult given the nature of the social media world, but it must be put into serious consideration if one must ensure right usage. The quest for determining the right content to consume might even demand that one pay attention to the social media platform he or she will be going for. There might be need then to go for only the most necessary platforms.
THE DISADVANTAGES OF MISUSING SOCIAL MEDIA
The most prominent harmful effect of social media is fear of missing out (FOMO) and it can only occur when one fail to use social media rightly. Given the unrealistic demands that this very effect brings, one can end up running into depression and anxiety if care is not taken. Self-esteem and body image concerns can as a matter of fact arise too. Another harmful effect of social media to the human person is decrease in face-to-face interaction. Just like I have stated earlier, you must as much as possible ensure that you do not allow social media affect you communication with the outside world.
THE BRAIN AND THE SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD
What ever effect the social media has on a person is directed to his or her mental health. In other words, it is the brain that suffers the harmful effects of the social media world. As a matter of fact, one must avoid those affects that would cause the brain to suffer. Some of these effects has been listened above and there are certainly more to them. I may not be an expert but I am aware of the fact that one can become as addicted as a drug addict with the social media. One can as well experience the effects associated with every other form of addiction alongside the other harmful effects of social media if addicted. The social media can as a matter of fact become a harmful substance, one capable of completely altering the functions of the brain.
CONCLUSION
For the sake of our mental health, there is great need to ensure that we do not get entangled with becoming either addicted or suffering from other harmful effects that social media brings. I will recommend using only the most necessary social media platforms. The necessity then will be dependent on what you do with it and how beneficial it is to you. Never allow yourself to become salve to the social media world...
