After exploring the vast and immersive savannah area, where we came across the imposing creatures that live there, we continued on our way to the tropical area of the Santo Inácio Zoo. This transition was like an invitation to a new world, of vibrant colors and exotic sounds, which made us feel as if we had traveled to another continent, where the exuberant nature and biodiversity revealed themselves in a surprising way.

Após termos explorado a vasta e imersiva zona da savana, onde nos deparámos com as imponentes criaturas que ali habitam, seguimos o nosso percurso para a zona tropical do Zoo de Santo Inácio. Esta transição foi como um convite para um novo mundo, de cores vibrantes e sons exóticos, que nos fez sentir como se tivéssemos viajado para um outro continente, onde a natureza exuberante e a biodiversidade se revelavam de forma surpreendente.
The entrance to this new area of the zoo was marked by the great variety of birds, some of which we had never seen so close before. The sound filled the air :-) There were colorful parrots perching in the trees, and macaws with their vibrant beaks and impressive shapes. The parrots in particular seemed aware of our presence, displaying themselves with graceful gestures and even imitating our sounds, as if wanting to interact. It was a magical experience.

A entrada nesta nova área do zoo foi marcada pela grande variedade de aves, algumas das quais nunca antes tínhamos visto de tão perto. O som preenchia o ar :-) Havia papagaios coloridos que se empoleiravam nas árvores, e araras com seus bicos vibrantes e formas impressionantes. Os papagaios, em especial, pareciam estar cientes da nossa presença, exibindo-se com gestos graciosos e até imitando os nossos sons, como se desejassem interagir. Foi uma experiência mágica.
We continued our walk, when we were surprised by the presence of a group of meerkats. These small mammals, always so attentive and curious, were positioned in their burrows, watching us with their tiny eyes. They seemed to be the true guardians of this area, always vigilant, observing every movement with endless curiosity. We approached slowly, without wanting to disturb their natural behavior, and we were able to see them up close. It was as if they were analyzing us, checking to see if we were a threat or just interested visitors to their world. Their alert posture and small movements in their territory gave us a sense of respect for the way they adapt to their environment.

Continuámos a nossa caminhada, quando fomos surpreendidos pela presença de um grupo de suricatas. Estes pequenos mamíferos, sempre tão atentos e curiosos, estavam posicionados nas suas tocas, observando-nos com seus olhos pequeninos. Pareciam ser os verdadeiros guardiões desta zona, sempre vigilantes, observando cada movimento com uma curiosidade infinda. Aproximámo-nos devagar, sem querer perturbar o seu comportamento natural, e conseguimos vê-los de perto. Era como se estivessem a analisar-nos, verificando se éramos uma ameaça ou apenas visitantes interessados no seu mundo. A sua postura alerta e as pequenas movimentações no seu território trouxeram-nos uma sensação de respeito pela forma como se adaptam ao ambiente.
However, the funniest moment of our visit occurred when, as we turned a bend in the path, we came across a small group of llamas. These majestic creatures, with their soft coats and calm expressions, were unexpectedly welcoming to our presence. Contrary to what one might expect, the llamas did not spit at us, as is often seen on other visits to zoos, but on the contrary, they accepted the grass we offered them with great joy. We approached slowly and, with gentle gestures, handed them small green leaves. Their reaction was immediate: they began to chew calmly.

Porém, o momento mais caricato da nossa visita ocorreu quando, ao virar uma curva do caminho, nos deparamos com um pequeno grupo de lamas. Estas majestosas criaturas, com as suas pelagens macias e expressões tranquilas, mostraram-se inesperadamente receptivas à nossa presença. Ao contrário do que se poderia esperar, as lamas não nos cuspiam, como muitas vezes se vê em outras visitas a zoos, mas, ao contrário, aceitaram a erva que lhes oferecemos com grande alegria. Aproximámo-nos lentamente e, com gestos suaves, entregámos-lhes pequenas folhas verdes. A sua reação foi imediata: começaram a mastigar de forma calma.
As we advanced through the zoo, he appeared before us: a peacock with splendid plumage, displaying his feathers with almost conscious care. The peacock, which seemed to be posing for a photo shoot, moved elegantly, opening and closing its feathers as if it were showing us all its beauty with each movement. It was impossible not to stop and capture that moment. The peacock proudly displayed its splendor, causing everyone to be amazed. Some, more enthusiastic, approached with cameras in hand, trying to capture every detail of its plumage.

À medida que avançávamos pelo zoo, ele apareceu à nossa frente: um pavão de plumagem esplêndida, a exibir as suas penas com um cuidado quase consciente. O pavão, que parecia estar a posar para uma sessão fotográfica, movia-se com elegância, abrindo e fechando as suas penas como se estivesse a mostrar-nos toda a sua beleza em cada movimento. Era impossível não parar e capturar aquele momento. O pavão exibia com orgulho o seu esplendor, fazendo com que todos ficassem maravilhados. Alguns, mais entusiastas, aproximaram-se com as câmaras em mãos, tentando captar cada detalhe da sua plumagem.
However, while everyone was focused on watching the peacock, something unexpected happened. A child started running towards the peacock, which scared the bird, causing it to take an unexpected leap and rise into the air, creating a small confusion among the visitors. The scene, which quickly became a bit of fun for everyone, demonstrated how unpredictable interactions between humans and animals can be, even in a controlled environment like a zoo.
Each area, each species, each gesture made us better understand the immense preservation work that takes place there. But I still have more to show you about this wonderful place.

Porém, enquanto todos estavam concentrados em observar o pavão, aconteceu algo inesperado. Uma criança, começou a correr em direção ao pavão, o que assustou a ave, fazendo-a dar um salto inesperado e levantar-se no ar, criando uma pequena confusão entre os visitantes. A cena, que rapidamente passou a ser uma pequena diversão para todos, demonstrava o quão imprevistas podem ser as interações entre seres humanos e os animais, mesmo num ambiente controlado como um zoo.
Cada zona, cada espécie, cada gesto fazia-nos compreender melhor o imenso trabalho de preservação que ali se realiza. Mas ainda tenho mais para vos mostrar deste lugar maravilhoso.
