šļø COMMENTARY
Among other things, entitlement mentality makes you believe that you deserve automatic respect at all times. It is self-serving and will do whatever it takes to get what it wants, even at the expense of others. It gives a feeling of automatic priority in any given situation for no apparent reason.
When Mary and Joseph went to their hometown to be taxed according to the order by the government of their day, Mary was already due to be delivered of her baby. Our key verse says there was no room for them in the inn; so, it was in an animal stable that Jesus was born and kept in a manger. If God, the Maker of heavens and earth could not get any room in the inn to birth His only begotten Son; you may need to do away with entitlement mentality. Life is not fair and will never be. There has never been enough room for anyone with a worthwhile vision, to birth it. Stop looking at certain persons or places. God has prepared a stable person and place.
The "entitlement mentality" is dangerous. It is a threat to contentment and a subtle beginning to one's rebellion against God. We need to be content with all of the good things that God has given us (James 1:17) and submit to His will rather than pursuing our own selfish interests (Luke 9:23).To deal with the mentality, first, diagnose your heart. Ask yourself questions like: in what areas of my life am I discontent? Why am I feeling so disappointed right now? How am l comparing my life to someone else's life? Second, cling to the promise that God loves you, even when you don't get what you desperately want. Third, imitate Christ who laid down his entitlements so that we might share in His glory (Philippians 2:5-8).
