Seeds in the making

Autumn in a garden is full of decaying plants, flowers without petals, drying seed pods... generally all the good stuff. And there is a lot to shoot! On a good, sunny day, everything can be an object, you just need to look a bit closer.

These are Candytuft seeds in the making. After the flowers are gone, they create this lovely rosette. In this stage, they remind me of some of the succulents that I grow with their perfect shapes and symmetry.

They are just about 3 cm across, and each can produce a few dozen seeds. They drop on the ground, and in late spring, they grow wherever they want.

At this stage, they are bright green, with the little antennas in a lighter yellow, almost white colour.
Sorry, not sorry, for removing the colours. I liked the shapes and how the light created all the shadows. Black and white won this time.

Later on, the green turns yellow, and the whole thing just dries up. The seeds drop, and only little sticks are left. At that point (not in the photos here) it looks like a skeleton hand. Quite pretty too :)
