Jays

Jays are not as social as other corvids - they are usually solitary, staying in pairs or small groups. They mate for the breeding season, sometimes for life. They start breeding at the age of two or three. They build their nests from small branches and roots - on trees, in the fork of the trunk or on a horizontal branch. The eggs are incubated by the female for 16–17 days. Jays are nesters and feed their chicks for about 20 days. After the breeding season, their individualistic nature comes to the fore again and Jays avoid company. However, it sometimes happens that in late summer and autumn they meet at local councils, during which they put on vocal performances, imitating singing birds. Similarly, they "concert" in spring, and then they also mate.
