Today I want to transport you to a beautiful garden located at the end of the Plaza de San Francisco de Asis. This is the first time I visit this place. In previous years, I had passed near it, but it was always closed. However, during my recent walk through the historic center of Havana, I was lucky enough to get right and enter this magical corner.
This place is a beautiful garden dedicated to the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, since 1999. I could not imagine a better place to pay tribute to her. It is located at the back of a convent, surrounded by plants in a quiet environment, next to one of the widest and most beautiful squares in Cuba, where doves, irrefutable symbol of peace, find their home. It is also very close to the sea, which adds a touch of serenity.

Hoy quiero transportaros a un hermoso jardín situado al final de la Plaza de San Francisco de Asís. Es la primera vez que visito este lugar. En años anteriores, había pasado cerca de él, pero siempre estaba cerrado. Sin embargo, durante mi reciente paseo por el casco historico de La Habana, tuve la suerte de acertar y entrar en este mágico rincón.
Este lugar es un hermoso jardín dedicado a la Premio Nobel de la Paz, la Madre Teresa de Calcuta, desde 1999. No podía imaginar un lugar mejor para rendirle homenaje. Está situado en la parte trasera de un convento, rodeado de plantas en un entorno tranquilo, al lado de una de las plazas más amplias y hermosas de Cuba, donde las palomas, símbolo irrefutable de la paz, encuentran su hogar. También está muy cerca del mar, lo que añade un toque de serenidad.
Upon entering this sacred garden, we find a cemetery where the remains of prestigious personalities rest, among them the first Historian of Havana, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, and various personalities of science and culture. Among them, I want to highlight the troubadour Vicente Feliú, whose reflective songs and unmistakable way of saying adorned my youthful days.
Al ingresar a este sagrado jardín, nos encontramos con un cementerio donde descansan los restos de prestigiosas personalidades, entre ellas el primer Historiador de La Habana, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, y diversas personalidades de la ciencia y la cultura. Entre ellos, quiero destacar al trovador Vicente Feliú, cuyas canciones reflexivas e inconfundible forma de decir adornaron mis días de juventud.
This Campo Santo also houses the remains of Eusebio Leal Splengler, next to his mother, a well-deserved resting place for the man who made possible many of the realities we enjoy today in Old Havana. Each cobblestone or ancient slab we walk on hides a magnificent legacy for posterity, and it is in his honor those beautiful flowers that daily adorn his tomb.
Este Campo Santo alberga también los restos de Eusebio Leal Splengler, junto a su madre, merecido lugar de descanso para el hombre que hizo posible muchas de las realidades que hoy disfrutamos en La Habana Vieja. Cada adoquín o losa antigua que pisamos esconde un magnífico legado para la posteridad, y es en su honor esas hermosas flores que a diario adornan su tumba.
In the center of the garden, there is a space reserved for the statue of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who is sitting on a large stone while reading a book. I greatly admire the work of protection of the poor that she developed around the world. Behind the statue, on the walls of the convent, stands an immense cross, and on the right hand side, a plaque with a brief description of her work. In front of it, a bell. Throughout the garden, among the lush vegetation, you will find beautiful sculptures by contemporary artists. These works of art embellish even more this spiritual place, also attracted me a lot, so much that enigmatic face that from where you looked at it you noticed a different expression. As well as the representation of "the table of silence". I think a lot about how sometimes among family and friends we acquire this pose, where we immerse ourselves in our world and forget the people around us.
A lo largo del jardín, entre la exuberante vegetación, encontrarás hermosas esculturas de artistas contemporáneos. Estas obras de arte embellecen aún más este lugar espiritual, también me atrajo mucho, tanto ese rostro enigmático que desde donde lo miraras notabas una expresión diferente. Así como la representación de "la mesa del silencio". Pienso mucho en como a veces entre familia y amigos adquirimos esa pose, donde nos sumergimos en nuestro mundo y nos olvidamos de la gente que nos rodea.
A wide brown ceramic walkway leads to the Sacred Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas of Mira, whose beautiful architecture I was able to admire from the outside, as it was closed to the public that day. I can't help but imagine the beauty that awaits inside and I know I must return another time to explore it.
Un amplio paso de cerámica marrón conduce hacia la Sacra Catedral Ortodoxa Griega San Nicolás de Mira, cuya hermosa arquitectura pude admirar desde el exterior, ya que ese día estaba cerrada al público. No puedo evitar imaginar la belleza que aguarda en su interior y sé que debo regresar en otro momento para explorarla.
Next to this cathedral, there is a space that adjoins the walls of the Convent of San Francisco de Asis. There, there is a sequence of arches and, in the center, several stalls from different sanctuaries and monasteries where the people of Cuba are blessed.
Junto a esta catedral, existe un espacio que colinda con los muros del Convento de San Francisco de Asís. Allí, se encuentran una secuencia de arcos y, en el centro, varias tarjas de diferentes santuarios y monasterios donde se bendice al pueblo de Cuba.
