After months of winter misery, where the closest thing to “grilling” was shoving a frozen pizza in the oven at 220°C and pretending it’s gourmet, I need BBQ in my life. Not want, NEED. It’s a primal thing. Meat. Fire. Smoke. And the obligatory famous Friends quote "Men are here, we make fire!". And yeah, some vegetables too, because, well, dunno balance or something.
Today, we hit up IKEA (because obviously, you go in for “one thing” and end up walking 10,000 steps through a Swedish labyrinth of ingeniously cheap home goods). And let’s be real, you can’t go to IKEA without the mandatory Kötbullar break. “It’s tradition, Dad!!!” Yeah, yeah, fine, twist my arm, I’ll eat meatballs (which, let's be honest, I love just as well as the kids do, but don't tell @nathalie-s about that!).
But then... BOOM 💥: we get to the seasonal section, and suddenly, BBQ is everywhere. Like, the universe is speaking to me. Do I need a new grill? Do I finally go for that Big Green Egg (aka the Ferrari of backyard cooking), or do I keep it simple with a gas grill? Maybe a fancy electric Ninja? Or do I go full caveman with a charcoal grill, knowing full well that Belgian weather will betray me (it always does, and its trackrecord is looooong!!!), and I’ll end up grilling alone in the rain while everyone else enjoys their meal indoors?
Or… do I just roll with my trusty and rusty old BBQ for another year? 🤔
Whatever happens, one thing is certain: BBQ season is here, and I’m ready to grill like my life depends on it. Bring on the steak, the garlic bread, the melons (YES, ALL THE MELONS!!!), and the good vibes. 🌞🔥
