Ethereum will soon go live with a major upgrade that promises to reduce its energy use by 99%.
The upgrade, dubbed "the Merge," has been in development for years and is considered one of the most significant upgrades in Ethereum's history. Once it's live, Ethereum will switch to a new consensus mechanism called proof-of-stake, which is much more energy-efficient than the current proof-of-work mechanism.
