A Courageous Battle For Survival.

Kidnapping is a horrible thing to think of whether as a culprit or victim and it's weird to just imagine being either of the two people involved. I have thought about it a few times from the victim's corner and what I can say is that it would not be a sweet experience judging by the stories and things happening in the world at the moment.

This issue of kidnapping is something Nigeria is struggling with at the moment and these evildoers do not respect anyone, they only have eyes on the money and nothing more. They treat their victims like insects and only care about the ransom. I doubt if a day would pass without a kidnapping case in the country and it only becomes a public story when the people involved are famous or wealthy in the society.

A lot of people have lost their lives to kidnappers and it's horrible. I don't have first-hand experience but there is someone in my neighborhood who did and everything he narrated wasn't pleasant to ears not to speak of those who saw it with their eyes.

His family raised the alarm when the kidnapper contacted them and the whole community had to contribute something to support the family before he was released. The man returned but the physiological effect of everything he experienced still affected him for some time. Should we talk about the Chibok girls or the boarding school that kidnappers emptied in Borneo state some time ago? It's horrible and the imagination alone can strike fear in the heart.

If just thinking about it can make one scared, what's the feeling like for the victims? If we are being frank, the first thing that would come to mind after being kidnapped is not talking our way out of the kidnapper's grip because we wouldn't want to lose our heads even before the random negotiation begins as our babbling might irritate them. The majority of us would start praying silently with fear in our hearts especially when we know that there is no one at home to pay whatever ransom is demanded.

These guys don't request money that you can easily lay your hands and in my case, they won't get anything because I know my family's capabilities so if nothing is done, I will understand that there was nothing they could do about it but if the kidnappers can be patient enough, I might be useful for them by cooking their meals and it would be a grave mistake because they will eventually meet their end after eating my meal someday.

If it happens which I don't pray, I would act before I speak. I will try to make sure we don't have skin contact and if they try rough-handling me in the vehicle, I will break the news they aren't ready for.

"Please you should stay at least 3fts away from me because of my health,"

I bet they will be curious to know and ask what the health condition is.

"I fell ill lately and was diagnosed with COVID-19. I have infected my family members and escaped quarantine because we aren't been cared for there. I need to get to the governor's office to express my mind, you picked me up on my way there."

At that point, they must be looking at eachother and praying that they haven't gotten infected already. If they aren't convinced, I will start coughing and faking shortness of breath while making a hand gesture that they should stay away from me.

If that doesn't work, I guess my time is up in the world. I will use this opportunity to pray that God come through for everyone who is held captive at the moment and may the Almighty God help us put an end to the reign of kidnappers in Nigeria.
