Hello community! In the past days I told you about the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Garden here in Havana, and I mentioned that at the end of the place is the Greek Orthodox Church called St. Nicholas of Mira Orthodox Cathedral. On that visit, unfortunately, I was unable to access it as it was closed. However, this weekend I was near the area and decided to stop by to see if I had any luck, and I did, its doors were open to the public. I was anxious to see the interior, as I had been told of its beauty.

En días pasados les hablé del Jardín de la Madre Teresa de Calcuta aquí en La Habana, y mencioné que al final del lugar se encuentra la Iglesia Ortodoxa Griega llamada Catedral Ortodoxa San Nicolás de Mirá. En aquella visita, lamentablemente, no pude acceder ya que estaba cerrada. Sin embargo, este fin de semana estuve cerca de la zona y decidí pasar para ver si tenía suerte, y así fue, sus puertas estaban abiertas al público. Estaba ansiosa por ver el interior, ya que me habían hablado de su belleza.
The Cathedral is truly beautiful and being located in that sacred garden with abundant vegetation, makes it look like a charming little forest house out of a movie. Its construction preserves the style of Byzantine churches, with a beautiful dome in the center and above it a large cross. I love how its walls are made of stone, with a strip of red ceramic that combines with the tile roofs and surrounds the entire cathedral, drawing an arch in each window or door. It is a very nice constructive ornament.
La Catedral, es verdaderamente hermosa y al encontrarse ubicada en ese sagrado jardín con abundante vegetación, la hace parecer una encantadora casita de bosque sacada de una película. En su construcción se conserva el estilo de las iglesias bizantinas, con una hermosa cúpula en el centro y sobre ella una gran cruz. Me encanta cómo se ven sus paredes hechas de piedra, con una franja de cerámica roja que combina con los techos de tejas y rodea toda la catedral, dibujando un arco en cada ventana o puerta. Es un adorno constructivo muy bonito.
Over the main door, there is an arch engraved in stone in relief where Jesus is represented with different apostles.

The exterior is very beautiful although with few colors, the interior is the opposite, an explosion of colors. All the arches are painted with brightly colored flowers, the walls are white and the ceilings are a beautiful sky blue. At the entrance, on the floor, there is a marble inlay reflecting the date of foundation of this church by the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
El exterior es muy bonito aunque con pocos colores, el interior es todo lo contrario, una explosión de colores. Todos los arcos están pintados con flores de vivos colores, las paredes son blancas y los techos tienen un precioso color azul cielo. A la entrada, en el suelo, hay una incrustación de mármol que refleja la fecha de fundación de esta iglesia por el arzobispo de la archidiócesis del Patriarcado Ecuménico de Constantinopla.
Although small, the church has gilded columns and hanging chandeliers, is highly ornamented with ornaments characteristic of the Orthodox church, such as the 8-armed cross.

In the center, there is a dome surrounded by arched windows, the edges are decorated with multicolored paintings, at the top there is an image of Jesus and hanging from this dome there is a large golden lamp with a cross. On the floor, just below the dome, there is a shield inlaid with a double-headed eagle, that is, with two heads and spread wings. This symbol is related to the Byzantine dynasty and represents both royalty and resurrection.
En el centro, existe una cúpula rodeada de ventanas arqueadas, los bordes están decorados con pinturas multicolores, en la parte superior hay una imagen de Jesús y colgando de esta cúpula hay una gran lámpara dorada con una cruz. En el suelo, justo debajo de la cúpula, hay un escudo incrustado con un águila bicéfala, es decir, con dos cabezas y las alas desplegadas. The altar is small but extremely beautiful, made of wood with golden tones and a cross in the center, there is a door that only opens completely during mass, you can see on both sides paintings of different deities with vivid colors.

Although all the construction was made in Cuba, there are many objects, paintings and lamps brought from Greece. The woodwork presents very elaborate carvings and the golden tone of the wood makes everything shines to the eye. Several representations of Bishop Nicolás de Mirá can be found, as well as of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ.
Aunque toda la construcción fue hecha en Cuba, hay muchos objetos, pinturas y lámparas traídas de Grecia. La carpintería presenta tallas muy elaboradas y el tono dorado de la madera hace que todo brille a la vista. Se pueden encontrar varias representaciones del obispo Nicolás de Mirá, así como de la Virgen María y Jesucristo.
At the back, bordering the church among the trees, is the place where baptisms are performed, and on the surrounding walls are brightly colored mosaic images depicting different deities. The surrounding vegetation enhances the colors, creating a truly beautiful setting.
En la parte trasera, bordeando la iglesia entre los árboles, se encuentra el lugar donde se realizan los bautismos, y en las paredes circundantes hay imágenes de mosaicos de vivos colores que representan a distintas deidades. La vegetación circundante realza los colores, creando un entorno realmente hermoso.
