Using Little League ruleset to win a Diamond level Modern League battle!

For this post I managed to get a pure Little League ruleset with no additional rulesets in effect:

    The Strategy

In this post we are going to take a look at one of my favorite setups for the Little League ruleset. To illustrate the effectiveness of this ruleset I managed to find a thirty mana battle with only little league ruleset in effect. We have all splinters open with the exception of the Earth splinter.

For this battle I am going with a water splinter and an all Chaos Legion set cards. This is a very powerful and cost effective setup. With the exception of the Doctor Blight the monsters in my lineup are mostly penny per BCX. And I am renting Doctor Blight so that is an option you can also utilize if you don't want to invest in buying this promo card.

The main strategy to win this battle is to focus my fire on the first position. So I picked highest damage monsters that all hit the first position. Additionally I am choosing fast monsters with the exception of Doctor Blight which is a magic monster so it wouldn't miss unless there is a phase monster like Chaos Agent that he is targeting. Doctor Blight is very useful here not only for his magic attack and likely zero misses but also for his Poison, Affliction, Scavenge and Weaken abilities, you almost have to play him in low mana battles.

So we hit the opponent hard, fast and with a focused fire with a hope to land poison as well. Additionally I put Merdaali Guardian in the third position so that she can heal and repair armor on the fist two monsters and herself when her turn comes giving the backline monsters more time to accumulate health and dish out damage to the opponent.

One un-usual choice you might see is the use of Pelacor Bandit as a tank. People would normally go with either Xenith Monk or Cruel Sethropod. While those are solid choices I like to play Pelacor Bandit in this setup as he has very high speed and higher damage than either of the options mentioned above.

    The Summoner

Kelya Frendul is one of my favorite summoners in the game. This rare rarity summoner is great to play in the little league ruleset as it is only four mana and adding one shield and one speed is very useful in a little league battles.

1st Slot - Fast Melee Damage Dealing Monster

Pelacor Bandit is the original Chaos Legion Reward card. This very cheap monster is a must have for all kinds of battles. It is especially powerful in low mana battles regardless of how you use it in a traditional sneak way or this un-conventional tank way. The base speed of six, five health points and four melee damage is just too powerful not to use in the low mana rulesets or little league ruleset.

2nd Slot - Melee Attacking Reach Monster

Tide Biter is Chaos Legion Reward Set monster that comes with a great base speed of four, three melee damage and six health. It also has important abilities of reach, reflection shield and true strike.

3rd Slot - Heal and Repair Support Monster

Merdaali Guardian in a Chaos Legion Core Set rare support monster. It is especially good in low mana where it can keep small monsters alive for a while.

4th Slot - Ranged Attacking Increasing Health Monster

Merdhampir has good base stats of three ranged damage, four speed and six health but his most important ability for the little league ruleset is his ability to increase his health: Life Leach.

5th Slot - Main Ranged Damage Dealing Monster

Kulu Swimhunter is our main ranged damage dealer. He comes with a base speed of five, four ranged damage and six health points. With the speed boost from Kelya this monster rarely misses his target.

    6th Slot - Support Monster

Doctor Blight is one of the best supporting monsters in the game, he deals magic damage so he rarely misses and he has affliction, camouflage, poison, scavenge and weaken abilities.

    THE BATTLE

Our opponent went with a death team with a mix of promo, chaos, rewards and rebellion cards a very strong team. Let's see how it will fair against our team...
    image.png

In the first round their Doctor Blight managed to land poison on our Pelacor Bandit and our Doctor Blight didn't land poison on their slower tank, so we were somewhat unlucky.

In the second round we took out their tank and they took our our tank and our Doctor Blight finally managed to land a poison:

In round three we took out their second monster without loosing any of our own.

And in round four we lost our second monster but our Doctor Blight did manage to land poison again.

Rounds five, six and seven we spent slowly grinding down their defense and finally by round 8 it started to become clear that we are winning:

And finally we won at the start of round 10:
