BROKEN HUMANITY
Given the inadequacies of our human nature;
our unwavering strife of interest
bereft of love and goodwill —
We cannot right the wrongs of history
and the injuries that time cannot heal
For all damage done
is our existence impaired.
In fixing it, we err still,
beyond the retribution of conscience
And whatever gods are
shall not pity us while we suffer
for they too, are bemused
by this broken humanity.
A rather short poem, but all the weight of my heart is poured out into every word. It bears a sadist mood and tone of despair but that's the point. The world, for most people, has been a place where they have no power over even their own lives. Their fate rests solely on the decisions of the powers that be. All effort to address worlds issues, further compounds the issues, resulting in situations of new dimension. Throughout human history, eras may differ, civilizations may evolve, cultures may vary but the human nature – that constantly interfers with sustainable peace – remains the only factor that never changes.
