When I first joined Soulkeep, I was excited to discover everything about it. From the gameplay, to the Fiends that attack you, to the towers you're supposed to defend with. I wanted to gain more experience in the game, experiment, make mistakes, and learn. But what really caught my attention was a simple thing that made a huge difference which is upgrading.
In the first level, I was trying out the Gloom Owl tower as It's a simple tower that strikes relatively quickly and is useful against Fiends at first and give physical damage to fiends. Everything was fine, until I decided to try the upgraded version.
The upgraded version literally swallowed the Fiends, with stronger, faster strikes and a wider range. I stood by and watched the Fiends disappear one by one without doing anything. I felt like this tower alone could cover the space of two or three regular towers.
What initially required me to build many towers and wait a long time to finish a wave, was completed in seconds when I upgraded my tower. That's when I realized that the game isn't just about building towers and leaving. Upgrading is the real key.
So whenever I build a tower, I always ask myself that can I upgrade with mana available because I knew that one upgraded tower is good and stronger than two regular ones. This prompted me to completely change my strategy.
If you're new to Soulkeep, my advice to you is: try upgrading early, and you'll see the difference for yourself. Upgraded towers aren't just stronger as they can literally save you in critical moments and be able to kill fiends quickly.
