With regular updates rolling out, the Splinterlands community is busy upgrading their card collections to up their gameplay.
Today I will be covering an added bonanza for the regular players. There is a new game launched on Hive blockchain called Ethgard Legends. This is a bonus for Splinterlands community which is anyways looking forward to the seasonal rewards they are earning while playing Splinterlands.
Ethgard is airdropping free Alpha packs with 3 cards for Splinterlands users that have more than 10,000 SPS and have participated at least once in the governance/ voting for Splinterlands.

Airdrop Claim Ends on 1st April!!
If you hold more than 10,000 SPS then head over to the following link to claim your Alpha pack- https://ethgardlegends.com/inventory/items
It will contain 3 random cards which will enable you to start playing and earning native tokens.

If you go to your Hive wallet you would have received a message from Ethgard about claiming your free Alpha pack by 1st April.

    What Exactly is Ethgard Legends?
My first experience after playing the game for a few times now is that the gameplay is very similar to Splinterlands. The similarities are:
Alpha Packs with random set of card and the possibility to get GoldFoil cards.
In Game tokens rewards through chests you earn after each set of games
Starter Cards, even if you don’t buy a lot of cards you can still use the starter cards

The images on the cards are the same as Splinterlands specially the Rebellion set. Not sure if there is going to be a intellectual property violation against Splinterlands.
The gameplay involves getting teamed up against random opponents.
I have still not got into the details of the game as not sure if there is any levelling up of the cards or what are the utilities planned for the in game tokens I am earning or perhaps it will come later in the roadmap.

    B3 (Base L3) Vs Hive!
One prominent difference between Ethgard and Splinterlands is that while Splinterlands runs on Hive blockchain on the other hand Ethgard runs on B3 chain which is a Layer3 on Base.
I don’t have the full context here but it seems sometime back they made the conscious effort to chose another chain besides Hive as building a game so similar to Splinterlands it would have been a natural choice to use Hive.

My 1st Impression of Ethgard Legends!
Honestly speaking my first impression of Ethgard is a bit mixed. I don’t think it’s a bad game as I liked the overall site quality, gameplay effects, no glitches in any of the sections like battles, market, claiming reward chests.
What I find lacking though is some innovative difference from Splinterlands. It is very similar to Splinterlands as it has the same images of monsters on the cards. It has same 3 kind of attacks- Magic, Melee and Ranged.
If it wants to create a space for itself in the future it will have to come up with some differentiation from the original gameplay of Splinterlands. The gameplay is not very intuitive, perhaps coz I just started. I have become accosted to the rules of Splintelrands in terms of Mana limit, battle restrictions etc but with Ethgards I could not clearly understand how many cards I can select in a round and when and how I can increase the card slots. I am going to search if I can find some gameplay manuals or start preparing on my own as I start figuring out more. For now I am not planning to invest more capital in the game and continue playing with the free starter cards.

    Cheers,
    Sam
