As a city that’s known for its tourism, food and beverage industry thrive well in Yogyakarta. This time around especially, tourists flocked to the city to check out historical and artsy corners that this place has to offer. At the same time, since I am moving out, I was trying to be a tourist again. In my day-to-day life, I typically won’t really be that adventurous but because I am putting myself in tourist shoes, I ended up checking out this place called Jeeva.
This place is semi coffee shop/restaurant offering various meal and coffee. They are located in most hipster place in town called “Kota Baru” where coffee shops typically offers indie scene. However, this one was the most touristic of them all. It is located in an old house but already well-furnished to meet tourist expectations. It is quite cozy, honey as well as looking historic. The servers are almost all male where they will open and closing doors for you. The menu that they are offering are mix of western fusion and Indonesian cuisine that will certainly blow your mind, something that I found after eating at this place. Unfortunately though, the coffee was pretty sub-par. As for the details, let me tell you more!
I ordered this chicken rice pesto with mozzarella. It is basically rice that is cooked with pesto paste and it comes out green. It is topped with breaded chicken and melted mozzarella. Presentation wise, it looks pretty okay but the taste was certainly something to note. It was and interesting mixture of savory and rich flavor of the pesto. Typically, pesto is served with spaghetti but this interesting twist made into this dish was uniquely flavorful. The chicken was also well-seasoned & I was well-surprised of how the combination works.
For the coffee, I ordered piccolo and this coffee called “Pisang Ijo '' Coffee. The coffee is inspired by an Indonesian dessert. It’s too sweet to my liking & even the piccolo was a little underwhelming.
I certainly won’t recommend the coffee but the food menu is definitely a must try. For a place that is known for tourists, it’s pretty decent considering the location and the food.
Since I was there for lunch, I didn’t really take a lot of pictures. At the same time, the ambient wasn’t quite supporting to take the interior pictures. So, that’s why I only got a picture of the food and a little spot that managed to get into my frame.
Anyway, if you visit Yogyakarta, check out Jeeva which is located in Jl. Suhartono No.2, Kotabaru, Kec. Gondokusuman, Kota Yogyakarta, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. You won’t be regretting the food!
