We wrapped up the weekend with an early taste of wintery weather up in the hills as I had to run through a steady mess of light rain, little sleet and a few flakes of wet snow ❄️ 🥶 on my 8 miles along the Spence Spring trails.
Dark clouds were already gathering over the hills when we woke but other than a chilly wind our morning walk wasn't too bad.
The Spence trailhead is usually packed with cars but with the end of the summer season and lousy weather forecast for today there wasn't much of a crowd there today.
The first two miles were the hardest with the Vista Trail climbing over a couple hundred feet before joining the wide Javelina Trail after which I headed off onto another narrow trail that would wind back and forth as it descended back towards the lower Javelina as the rain and sleet started to fall.
The next few miles had me getting soaked from the steady sleet and rain but I've spent most of my life in more temperate areas so winter doesn't bother me too much.
We finished up with a hike around Lynx Lake under cold and overcast skies but the snow would remain a few hundred feet higher up the road in Walker.
Only a few other hardy souls were there but Lulu had fun and made some new friends.
