I and my friends were discussing about domestic violence the other day and one of them basically was telling us about how some ladies like it when they get beaten by their partners and as expected, everyone said he was lying, everyone except me.

I know it's a crazy thing to say and if someone had said this same thing to me four, five years ago, I probably would have said that they were lying too but then after I experienced it myself, I knew that just the same way there are different colors, there are also different kind of crazy out there.

Towards the end of my second or third year in school, I had met this lady who initially had come to visit her sister who stays in the same hostel where I reside. When we first met, one could say it was love at first sight but then she had told me that she had no plans on staying in the state for long because she was a student in a school located at a faraway state.

So from the onset we knew our frienship wasn't going to be a long one but that didn't stop us, although we had both agreed to not have anything serious between us, just friends who really liked each other or a short term relationship, whatever you want to call it. We were in love or at least that was what I thought until about two weeks into the situationship, that was when I realized the psycho I was with.

One night while we both sat outside my hostel, she had casually told me of how she enjoys it when her partner hits her. Of course I had thought she was joking and had laughed at it but then as time went on, I started to realize that she would do things on purpose just to get me angry and then she would try provoking me to hit her.

But as a black man who could tell when someone is mad from a mile away, instead of hitting her, I had called off the whole thing immediately after that first incident. I remember part of me being scared because that was the first time I was experiencing something like that, and another part of me was just surprised that someone like that even existed.

She had tried apologizing but I knew better, I knew it was only going going to get worse from there and also a matter of time before she forces me to actually hit her and that was the last thing I wanted, so I called it off and ran for my life.

Mind you, this isn't me trying to say that most domestic violence happen because the other party involved wanted it to happen, or me trying to justify it in any way possible, absolutely not. Domestic violence of any kind is terrible, I'm only just telling a story from my personal experience.
