I am doing very well despite the cold weather in my city. Little by little, we are getting sick 🤧 so I can't wait for the moment when we can ventilate the house a bit without freezing in the process.
In my last post, I mentioned that my sister-in-law @lauramica returned from her trip, and my girlfriend and I decided to throw her a surprise party. Today, I want to share some more details and the story behind that welcome sign.

Yo estoy muy bien a pesar de que hace mucho frío en mi ciudad. De a poquito nos vamos enfermando 🤧 así que no veo la hora de que se pueda ventilar un poco la casa sin congelarse en el intento.
En mi último post había contado que mi cuñada @lauramica volvió de su viaje y decidimos con mi novia hacerle un festejo sorpresa. Hoy quiero contar unos detalles más y la historia detrás de ese cartel de bienvenida.
She was already on her way to Buenos Aires when I got the idea to decorate the house and surprise her. Luckily, I have everything needed to make a great sign. I have a friend who works in a factory that makes school papers and she always gives me things, so I have a lot of stuff, plus I love collecting stationery items. Don't ask me why, but I have many things that would be very useful to a kindergarten teacher 😂.
Ella ya estaba viniendo para Buenos Aires cuando se me ocurrió la idea de decorar la casa y sorprenderla. Por suerte tengo todo lo que se necesita para hacer un gran cartel.
Tengo una amiga que trabaja en una fábrica que hace papeles escolares y siempre me regala cosas así que tengo un montón de cosas, sumado a que me encanta coleccionar artículos de librería. No me preguntes por qué pero tengo muchas cosas que serían de gran ayuda a una maestra de jardín de infantes 😂
So, since I had all the materials, I decided to make a welcome sign for her to read as soon as she walked through the door. Here is the step-by-step process of the wonderful sign I made at the last minute to welcome my sister-in-law.
Así que, como tenía todos los materiales se me ocurrió hacer un cartel de bienvenida para que lea apenas ingresara por la puerta.
Les dejo entonces aquí abajo el paso a paso del maravilloso cartel que hice a último momento para recibir a mi cuñada.
First, I selected the materials I wanted to use for this occasion:
- Four poster boards
- Sheets of different colors
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Adhesive tape
- Black marker
En primer lugar, seleccioné los materiales que quería utilizar en esta ocasión:
- Cuatro papel afiches
- Hojas de distintos colores
- Tijera
- Lapiz
- Cinta adhesiva
- Marcador negro
Second, I joined the four poster boards to form one larger board, using adhesive tape to hold them together.
In the image, you can see how I first joined two boards. Then, I did the same with the other two and joined them together in the same way.
En segundo lugar, uní los cuatro afiches para formar uno solo más grande. Y me ayudé pegándolos con cinta adhesiva.
En la imagen se observa como primero uní dos. Luego, hice lo mismo con los otros dos y los uní entre ellos del mismo modo.
Third, I set the poster aside and, after deciding what text I wanted to put on the sign, I looked up each letter one by one on my tablet and then traced it directly onto the colored paper chosen for each letter.
En tercer lugar, dejé el afiche en un costado y ya luego de haber decidido qué texto iba a poner en el cartel, busqué las letras una por una en mi tablet para después calcarla directamente sobre la hoja de color elegida para cada letra.
Fourth, I copied the design of the letter seen on the tablet onto the colored paper and then carefully cut it out. Some letters turned out messy, like this one, so I had to redo them because I really wanted them to look neat.
I repeated this action for each letter on the sign.
En cuarto lugar, copié el diseño de la letra vista en la tablet a la hoja de color y luego la recorté cuidadosamente. Hubieron algunas letras que me quedaron desprolijas, como esta, así que tuve que volver a hacerlas porque realmente quería que quedaran prolijas.
Repetí esta acción por cada letra del cartel.
Fifth, when I had all the letters ready, I took the poster, laid it on the floor, and then my girlfriend arranged the letters on it. By this point, I was already stressed because my sister-in-law was about to arrive, so my girlfriend took charge and gave me a lot of help to finish it on time.
En quinto lugar, ya cuando tenía todas las letras listas, tomé el afiche, lo puse sobre el piso y luego mi novia las presentó sobre el mismo. Yo a todo esto ya estaba estresada porque ya casi era hora de que llegue mi cuñada así que mi novia tomó cartas en el asunto y me terminó dando una gran ayuda para terminarlo a tiempo.
Sixth, I also added some drawings so that the sign wouldn't look so empty, such as an airplane and a location symbol.
En sexto lugar, también sumé algunos dibujos para que el cartel no quedara tan vacío, tal como un avión y un símbolo de ubicación.
Seventh, with all the letters taped to the poster board, all that was left was to hang it somewhere visible upon entering. I chose to hang it over the curtain. I used some pins to secure it properly so it wouldn't fall.
En séptimo lugar, ya con todas las letras pegadas con cinta al papel afiche, solo bastaba colgarlo en algún lugar que se viera al entrar así que elegí colgarlo sobre la cortina. Me ayudé de unos alfileres para que quede bien y no se caiga.
Finally, when she arrived, she saw it and got very emotional because she hadn't seen us or the family in six months, so it was a very touching reunion. We also welcomed her with a great snack, including pancakes with dulce de leche, a homemade sponge cake that I made, and quince paste cookies. It was a pleasant time where we caught up on her travel stories and our life stories at home 😊.
Finalmente, cuando llegó, lo vio y se emocionó mucho porque hacía seis meses no nos veía ni a nosotras ni a la familia así que fue un momento de reencuentro muy emotivo. La recibimos también con una gran merienda. En la que incluimos panqueques con dulce de leche, un bizcochuelo casero que hice yo y galletitas de membrillo.
Fue un rato agradable en el que nos pusimos al día con sus historias de viaje y con nuestras historias de vida en casa 😊
