14 March 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2311: the day the sun went out

This is a fiction inspired by prompt "the day the sun went out".

Dr. Minho was a genius physicist working for the Korean Aerospace Administration.
It was summer, but it wasn't summer weather, it was spring weather because the temperature was getting cooler.
'It would have been incredibly hot in the past'
Dr. Minho thought the sun's behavior was unusual.
'If the sun stopped working, it would be a disaster for the planet'
Dr. Minho went into the lab to analyze and simulate the sun's behavior.

    What is the Sun like?
The Sun is the only planet that emits its own light, and it is the source of all life.
The Sun's core temperature is about 150 million degrees Celsius.
The Sun's lifespan is expected to be about 10 billion years. It is currently about 4.6 billion years old, so it will last for about 50 years.
If the Sun were to stop, it would be a catastrophe for Earth.

Based on simulations, Dr. Minho has come to the conclusion that the sun is getting weaker and weaker and could stop functioning in a few years.

What would happen if the sun disappeared?

The Earth's temperature would get colder and colder. Life on Earth would be nearly impossible to survive in a sunless environment.
Plants would not be able to photosynthesize without the sun, so food production would decrease. The sun's gravitational effect around the Earth plays an important role in maintaining the Earth's rotation and magnetic field. If the sun disappeared, it would cause a variety of geologic and climatic changes.

Dr. Minho sent the simulation data to a lab in the United States, and they said they were analyzing the Sun's behavior and came up with the same results. The results were reported to the United Nations.

The United Nations contacted the world's most talented scientists and tried to find a solution to the problem of solar activity.

Finally, they found the cause of the sun's behavior.
The sunspots were getting bigger and bigger. Sunspots on the Sun are the result of localized magnetic activity caused by the activity of the magnetic field.
The size and activity of sunspots is related to the Sun's magnetic activity cycle, which is about 11 years long.

Certain sunspots have become unusually large, reducing the amount of heat radiated from the sun's surface.
As a result, Earth's climate was being affected.

Scientists from around the world gathered to discuss solutions.

Dr. Minho came up with a solution.

"Drop a nuclear bomb in the center of the sunspot and make the sun's activity normal."

The average distance from the Earth to the Sun is about 149,600,000 kilometers.
The New Horizons spacecraft previously launched toward Pluto traveled at about 16.26 kilometers per second (km/s).
If it traveled toward the sun at that speed, it would take about 105.6 days to reach it.

Countries around the world have built spacecraft and collected nuclear bombs to create powerful nuclear bombs.
The idea of gathering all the nuclear bombs on Earth and detonating them all at once spurred development.

The following summer, the global temperature continued to drop.
The world was clamoring for a quick fix. Finally, they were ready.
Ten spacecraft from ten locations set off for the sun, each carrying a powerful nuclear bomb.

Arriving at the center of sunspot 105, the bombs were detonated in succession.

A few days later, Dr. Minho Min, who was checking the sun's movement at the Korea Aerospace Administration, noticed that the sunspot was shrinking.
The observation data confirmed that the sun had returned to normal.
The news was immediately reported to the United Nations, and the world celebrated in real time.

The day was declared "the day the sun went out".

The following summer, Dr. Minho was able to enjoy a vacation on the beach under the scorching sun.
