CELEBRATIONS: THE PLACE OF MODERACY AND PLANNING

Merry Christmas everyone 🤗, may the joy, peace, gladness and goodwill that the birth of Christ brings be ours now and forever. The beauty of christmas is in reaching out to the loved ones, the less privileged, the needy and showing love to them through our givings and our cares. Also, the christmas period is a time of "wining and dining" even amidst family, friends, relations, neighbors etc which also makes it significant. It has been known over the years and from experiences that there is so much tendency to spend more or even over if not cautious especially this festive season, hence, the need for moderacy in spending.

In life, a basic principle which has stood the test of time is that of moderacy. The principle of moderacy deals with ranking our needs in order of preference i.e. scale of preference because human needs are insatiable. Different reasons leads to over spending during the festives such as lack of proper financial planning, show off, extravagant lifestyle etc. Jokingly, some people do believe that January do take longer than it is i.e. more than 30 days which is actually not true but only seems so for those who have recklessly spent all they have in the name of "festives" and have nothing left for the start of the new year especially salary earners whose next salary may be early February for some.

Personally, what i did was to buy what i believed should take us to celebrate christmas and new year festives within our available budget earlier before the festives. I believe so much in moderacy and not living life to please anybody or to spend under pressure which in most times is unplanned for. Therefore, proper planning is key to moderate spending during festives. In addition, another key to ensure that one didn't spend overboard is to practice contentment. In all truth, there is this impulse to spend more during festives even as many things looks catchy or thoughts of buying many things comes to the mind. However, been contented with whatever one has or practicing self control is the key.

In addition, i believe that for some people, they might need to avoid some people or avoid some gatherings which can make them spend overboard. For example, for those who traveled down to familiar places to celebrate the festives e.g. hometown, extra caution is needed by them so as not to go overboard in their spending and to manage the resources with them. For me, by my planning even though i didn't travel anywhere, i have reserved a little token and bought some foodstuffs which i believed can take us through early part of next year.

In all, festives has come and will go, however, our prudency and moderacy exercised now will determine what each person or family will experience after the festives. Therefore, proper planning, self control, saving small part for the coming year and avoiding extravagancy will be of tremendous help to avoid overspending and avert possible future regrets.
