Goodbye dear mug
If you are in this community it is because you like coffee, and surely you have a favorite mug at home to serve your daily portion. Today I want to talk about the relationship between mugs and coffee.
I'm not going to lie: I don't remember how I got my transparent mug or how long I've had it, but I liked it for several reasons. It was wide, so I could pour a generous amount of coffee. It allowed me to see the color of the coffee from all angles, not just from above, as many mugs do. It allowed me to admire the tones it has when pouring and drinking it. Its thickness was considerable, I think thicker than all the others at home.
Unfortunately, recently there was a "household accident" and it inadvertently came to rest on the floor and broke. I was sitting at the computer and heard the sound. First I worried that no one was hurt, and after that, well, it was my mug that had exploded on the floor.
Just a few days before I had taken these pictures of it on my desk. There is a time of year when the morning sun's rays come through the door and right onto my chair and desk. That morning I grabbed my coffee and headed to the desk. I placed the mug in a spot where it was just getting direct sunlight. I smiled at the reddish color of my coffee, and it was a strong black coffee! But we already know that depending on the quality and roasting level it can have this beautiful tone. And even more so if the sunlight is coming through a transparent cup. And that's when it occurred to me to take these photos. I did it with my cell phone, and not with the camera, as fast as possible, not knowing that it would be the last photos I would have of that cup.
Today I decide to publish these last photos of my mug. Yes, there are few differences in colors, angles and composition. But I believe that the hot coffee it contains and the exotic shapes rising above the vital liquid (call it steam, smoke or whatever) would not be possible without this humble hostess of my breakfasts.
How beautiful my mug was. Wide, sturdy, heavy, generous. It didn't draw attention to itself, but rather shifted attention to the contents it carried, the exquisite coffee, and perhaps made the coffee better to admire.
Of course, life goes on and I am drinking coffee from another borrowed mug. I'm starting to get used to the fact that I don't have it with me. But maybe it's the perfect excuse to go to a great store in town to look to buy a new one that I like. I'm sure I'll be back to introduce them to you. See you next time!
