While I had heard about this film a great deal and do in fact remember how popular it was at the time of it's release, I somehow managed to not watch this somewhat famous film until yesterday. Perhaps it was the nearly 2 and a half hour runtime or maybe it was released at a point in time where I shunned all Academy nominated films. Whatever the reason was, I ignored this film for 35 years.

The Substance is a film made last year 2024 that has been nominated for many awards, recently winning the Oscar award for best makeup and styling, it stars Demi Moore with a rather curious character, I had years without seeing this actress on screen, I do not know if she has participated in other films, but it was a pleasant surprise to see her again.

For some years now we have been observing that fusion that is presented in movies in which not only belong to a single film genre, but began to show action accompanied by comedy, in particular I like that combination that makes a movie more fresh, although when the comedy is in greater proportion than the action then is where it starts to bother me a little, because it becomes annoying. Well, I deviated a bit from the main topic, the thing is that now it also mixes romance with action and some horror, which I think is great, and that’s what I’m here to talk about today. The awards season is over, the Oscars have already been handed out, but the good movies never end. And although I would have liked to upload this review before the ceremony, due to release date issues here in Chile, I was only able to see it a few days before the Oscars, just the week I was publishing my favorites, my opinions and my predictions (with which I got 84% correct in the ceremony). However, even though the awards have been handed out and this movie has not won any statuettes, I think it is worth uploading the review and making it known to those who have not seen it yet.
