Rejoice in the Lord(Phili. 4:4)
What is rejoice?
Rejoice means to be very happy, be delighted, to feel joy.
To rejoice in the Lord is to have joy or delight in the Lord; to feel joy when you think of Him always.
This is Paul writing to the church in Philippians and he is encouraging them to rejoice. This is us this evening coming to the word of God to hear God say to us through Paul rejoice in the Lord always.
If you read through Philippians the word rejoice was used more than 10 times. It is a book full of encouragement.
We will use the book of Philippians to unlock the joy in us.
To find out what it is to rejoice let's ask ourselves the following questions;
- Is Paul qualified to tell us to rejoice? We might be thinking oh that Paul does not really know what we are going through he's telling us to rejoice Verse 12 of Philippians chapter 1, Paul was in prison. Paul has faced so many suffering and persecution, so he knows what it means to rejoice in the Lord.
- What does it mean to rejoice in the Lord? When Paul said we should rejoice in the Lord he means in the deepest and darkest day you can still enjoy.
- Why is Paul telling the Philippians church to rejoice? Why should we rejoice? This is the first church in Europe and Paul knows they are going to face oppositions. Paul was in prison in Philippine. He knows what it means to be in prison in Philippine. And he also knows what it means to rejoice in the Lord in all circumstances.
Paul wants us to rejoice for our good and for God's glory. Rejoicing is good for us and it's glorifies God. We read in Nehemiah that the joy of the Lord is our strength, so is your strength failing you? rejoice in the Lord. Do you want to be strong? rejoice in the Lord always.
As we end this year i want this to be part of our new year resolution, that in all circumstances we will rejoice because our father in heaven is the owner of the universe.
