This is one needlework or thread 🧵 project that got me excited because I went all out of the way to sew something unusual. A thing I have never dreamt of sewing but for friendship sake I want to make something special and unique. The lady is one of my best friends here and we share thesame health conditions, understand each other pain each time we fall sick. I can tell you that we often go all out for each other in everything.
We belong to different religion but that doesn't matter when it was time to celebrate Christmas they did celebrate with me and I have often done likewise and celebrated every Salah with them. On this special occasion of the Ramadan fast I have watch my friend here fasting everyday. This year has been a special one such that the Christian fasting of Lent coincided with the Muslim fast and at some point we are all fasting together.
Embellishment process
The Ramadan fast is almost over and I want to give some of my Muslim friends some lovely gifts.
I have sewn a dress for a friend just last week and while making that I remembered that I wish to give my friend here something as well. I didn't want to purchase anything from the market something made with love from my hands to hers will be better.
I thought of a dress but that didn't appeal to me much, then I decided to sew something I have never done before. The Muslim hijab is an important of body covering for the women a symbol of modesty, religious obligation and lot more. Muslims are mandated to pray with the hijab on.
This is something she will find useful.
I took a piece of fabric folded it diagonally and cut out the length I desire but for the facial area I was a bit confused and had to seek for help. Then I had this cut out here and proceeded to join the seamlines
Cutting ✂️
Sewing 🪡🧵🪡🧵
Having cut and sew this I don't want to leave it as plain as it is. Embellishment is what makes festive outfits like this colorful
Myself trying out the hijab after sewing it and before embellishment.
I searched for the most appropriate way to embellish this and realized that I cannot arrange any rhinestone in a beautiful manner in the Hijab then the idea of using a stoning board with already punched out patterns came to mind.
I went to a store and got these patterns for $3 and the rhinestones was less than half a dollar.
Picking out the stones, I traced them on the board according to the pattern that I want
Notice that I didn't fill up all the spaces on this board that I picked. I was trying to be creative with the pattern I chose and the entire flower 🌹🌺 wouldn't be nice from my own view.
Next I used a transfer sheet to pick the fabrics form the board and transfer them to the edges of the hijab.
After that the heat from the steaming iron glues the stones for my cloth
Everything was set and it was time to try out the fitting of the hijab. I love the final look and took a lot of shot in it myself
Then it was time to deliver the gift and my friend went all crazy and happy to see this.
After commending my efforts she noted that the length was too small for her and a bit inappropriate for wearing to mosque. I never knew that there is a length specification for making things like this.
She gave it to one of her younger sisters and it was a perfect fit for her. My friend will have to wait a bit to get another of her desired size she she wanted another one just like this.
The Hijab found a good use.
I learnt something new in the process and will be making more Hijabs and Muslim Outfits in the future too.
