Embracing Politics For the Sake of Change

The idea of contesting for a powerful position in my country, like the presidency, seems very interesting. If the opportunity comes knocking, I may take it because I crave a change, but sincerely, I dislike politics. On the other hand, I desire and have dreamed of a changing system in my country. I crave to see those leaders who have the interests of the people at heart. I desire to see leaders who will fulfill their campaign promises and make the nation great again.

Even with how much I crave to see changes in the system, my dislike for it is due to how politics are being played in my country. Most people see politics as a very dirty game. A game that makes contestants do unimaginable things just to get their opponents away from the picture. People are out there for their selfish interests; it's all about power, fame, their pockets, and their families. Since I became an adult, I could point to just a few leaders who have been less evil in their leadership and promises, and I began to believe that over there can be really intoxicating. Is as if once you occupy the seat, you may start behaving abnormally, like your original self would be automatically changed or something. This is just my own observation about politics, and the thought of these makes me have zero interest in occupying any seat if given the opportunity in the future, but just for the sake of bringing about change, I may consider it.

For someone who really desires to see changes in the political system, it's not enough to sit in the background and expect the change. It is not enough to sit back and support others because they might still disappoint and keep rotating the circle. In the last presidential election in my country, I gave massive support to the aspiring president I wanted to win. I went out of my way to convince people to get their voter cards and participate in the elections to see if this man could be the agent of change. Even though our choice of president didn't win, it wasn't a guarantee that he would have fulfilled his promises.

Politics is very important in any country, but it becomes difficult for countries to progress with the wrong people occupying the seats. Currently, the situation of politics in my country is worse than it was in the past. Imagine allocating billions of naira to different projects across states yearly, but yet, we still remain stagnant with development. That is because embezzlement wouldn't allow them to do the needful. Imagine a country like mine with many natural resources capable of making the country rich, yet we are as poor as anything due to the wrong government. You will hardly listen to the news without hearing about one billion debts or another, and I wonder if people have sold their consciousness for life. The political state nowadays is just terrible, and if good people continue to run away from the seat, then we aren't ready to see changes.

It could be difficult for me to handle playing their dirty game with a bunch of corruption in the schemes, but I crave to see my country with great accountability again. So if given the opportunity, I will definitely do things differently, strive hard to improve the lives of the citizens just like it is in some other countries, and elect people with a nice reputation to work with me like teamwork in bringing about real change.

In conclusion, I will be willing to step into politics just for the sake of change, to make a difference, and to set a better example for future generations to follow.
