Garden Journal: Crops Update fo the Month of February

in voilk •  5 months ago

    Greetings!

It has been a while since I have shown the development of my vegetable garden because there is not much that I can show to the community these past few weeks. Most of my vegetables are halfway through their life cycle and some are old. But I was able to keep them fruiting the old ones to keep in fruiting. I was only able to plant Mustard Greens and Snow Cabbage the past weeks.

    Mustard Greens

This is the first time (this year) that I planted mustard greens and only the second that I ever planted mustard greens. Planting mustard greens here in our locations seems to bring the same problem as the previous one, insects will come and ravage the bottom part.

My mustard greens, my first time to plant them this year and the second time overall

    Snow Cabbage

Whenever I plant mustard greens I am also planting snow cabbage. They are my favorites. I love to include them on most of the soup dishes that I am cooking and is also the same with my wife they are her favorite too! But the problem is also the same with the mustard insect will come and ravage the plant's bottom part.

Summer is just on the horizon

Summer is fast approaching, next month, March, will be the Fire Prevention month in our country. The month of March will have no rain and will last until the month of May. That's why this week I started to shower my Calamondin plants with water so that they will not be scorched by the sun's blistering heat. It is only February once we get to the months of March, April, and mid-May there will be no rain and the sun will be very very hot.

    Old Eggplants

I have lost track of when I planted my first-ever eggplant but I am sure that I planted it last year, it is now February, so, I think they are month than two months old. They are still producing fruits so I am not uprooting them yet I kept on watering them every day and they seem to continue fruiting for many days to come.

    First Bell Pepper

I don't have a plan to plant bell peppers in the foreseeable future but when I cooked a dish that needed bell peppers I took the opportunity to plant their seeds and here they are now, fruiting.

I don't know if this bell pepper is sweet or not, I just know that it is red

    Devil Chili

I can't remember how I came to plant a Devil Chili I have two of them that are now fruiting. They said that this chili is pretty hot which is why they call it Devil Chili.

My Devil Chili, I am still trying to recall how, when, and why I planted them

Pappaya is starting to bear fruit

I was so glad that two of my Papayas are now starting to bear fruit. Before they started to bear fruit I was always praying that they were both female (because male Papaya does not bear fruit). I was so relieved when I finally confirmed that both of them were female.

    First-ever Cassava

I love cassava (as a delicacy or kakanin) that is why I planted them. I was so glad that only two of the twenty cassava that were planted only two died. I stepped on the first one, I do not know why the second one died.

This cassava is just beside our driveway and about 5-7 steps away from our front door

    Ribbed Loofah

Last but not least I am going to show my Ribbed Loofah. The Ribbed Loofah is also kept and fruiting which is why I am still watering it every day. I also love to include Ribbed Loofah on some of the dishes that I love to cook, especially "Pinakbet".

This ribbed loofah is only medium in size it looked huge because I took a photo of it in close-up.

That is all for now guys, catch you up with the next one. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.
