    BATTLE LINK -- January 3, 2025 -- Day 3 of 365 vs. @bravetofu

Back with more tournament action in the BOTD series, this one comes against my guildmate @bravetofu in Day 2 action from the Scarred Hand Diamond Cup Gold Foil event. The fancy title means it's a Rebellion-only tournament, which has been a fun format to explore on its own. The 99-mana battle had 3 rulesets: Taking Sides, What Doesn't Kill You, and Armored Up. With only two elements available for team selection, Earth and Death, we both opted for a Death team using Lorkus.

Brave made savvy lineup choices with the halving scattershot of Baron Fyatt and the corrupted healing of Arachne Weaver. Playing off of the magic bonus from Lorkus, Brave fielded a lineup with all six slots filled with magic monsters. In comparison, I fielded a lineup with a more varied attack, including a melee tank and two range monsters for their support abilities.

The featured card of the battle is the new Water-Death Rebellion promo rare, Warborn Shaman. In the 99-mana battle, the high 10 mana cost was not a problem and the supporting abilities were difference makers. The self-heal ability really shines in collaboration with the life leech from Lorkus, growing its base health to heal even larger chunks of life. The ambush and poison abilities help to take down their taunt monster since, of course, Fyatt would half my Barashkukor's magic attack with its ambush scattershot.

In fact, each round Fyatt kept hitting my most threatening monster, which kept making the battle more difficult to navigate. But my two range monsters came through clutch with their support abilities.

Meriput Slinger slowed down my opponent's team, allowing my monsters to strike first in the mirror match, and its impede ability on their Barashkukor meant I was able to take down their powerful legendary before it could strike back with a big life leech.

Although it did miss two key sneak attacks on their Fyatt because of the blind ability, my use of Daigendark Hunter helped to silence their magic attack. In essence, it canceled out the bonus applied by Lorkus, which was mightily important since Brave started a lineup completely stacked with magic monsters. All things considered, the range plays saved me a bunch of incoming magic damage and managed to provide me some clutch speed differential. Sorry Brave, better luck next time, mate!
