It's no joke how much cost of living is getting on the high side, one is even tempted to think many will not survive in a few months from now if this continues but somehow we've had it worse for a long while and we are surviving. Even though the Government are to blame before we blame citizens, surviving first is become the main goal.
Personally, in the area I live, high cost of living is a daily grind we have to survive, from apartment fees to feeding fees to transportation fees, we keep feeling the heat here. Since I was done with service, it's been like the things to spend on doubled overnight. How come basic necessities became this expensive, especially our foods?
One thing that the cost of living will teach anyone who care to learn is, becoming frugal with how money is being spent. My family and I have actually given the thought on moving from this place to somewhere better but it's not because we want a place that is cheaper to go around living, because that's close to impossible now.
I believe even in this hard economy, we have to survive somehow and that is what we've been doing. For me, I've adopted the act of being frugal in my spending. It doesn't mean I don't give in to my cravings every now or then or treat my family to some nice meals, I just find ways to cut down some unnecessary bills and expenses for now.
Each day, we must eat as a family at least twice, every year, we have to get ready our rent fees so we are not kicked out of the place, when we have to go somewhere, even short distances cost some bills. Because of all this, I've come to adjust to how I live with my family and helping reducing costs around the house and outside.
Since relocating to anywhere in Nigeria is out of the picture for us to reduce cost of living, buying items in bulk every week or every month has helped me a lot in reducing the daily expenses we have around the house. That way, I get to buy things a bit cheaper and I spend for transportation once or twice in a month too.
I'm not the type that has many places to go in a month so I'm mostly indoors and that have also been helping in reducing transportation cost for now. And when I must go somewhere, I do some walking and the fee to get to my destination reduces, that's also a form of good exercise if you ask me lol. It's becoming a real frugal habit.
The expenses will not end, bills will keep coming but with the positive mindset of making sure to survive no matter what while hoping things might just get better someday with our country's economy or we become richer, I believe we are doing just fine. Surviving first has become the motto for most of us in this hard economy era.
