I first invested in some Gods Unchained NFTs back in 2019. It looked like an interesting up-and-coming NFT game that was capable of competing with Blizzards popular Hearthstone. I wasn’t really a player of Hearthstone but I knew it was pretty big and Gods Unchained made a decent case for being able to compete via blockchain trade-able NFTs. So I bought 106 packs...which turned out to be 530 cards. I thought that would allow me to create a decent starter deck or two…

From there, however, there seemed to be a long list of problems. I won’t go into them all, but when they finally got Immutable X working as a Layer 2 scaling solution on Ethereum and the cards could be properly traded I sold the premium cards I held in late 2021 along with any GODS and IMX tokens that I had at the time.
Turns out this was a good move as it looks like I had cashed a fair chunk out near the market top. I hadn’t given the game much thought since then, but recently heard they had won a PlayToEarn award for Best Card Game in 2024 and since I still had a few cards left over I thought I’d give them another look in 2025.
The game still plays well and I was able to get a client upgrade to start mixing it up without much fuss. I had some issues getting my Metamask wallet working with TokenTrove so that I could buy and sell cards from my deck. That was frustrating but once I sorted that out I’ve been fairly impressed with the marketplace there. You can sort, filter and see everything with price histories which provides a lot better experience than I remember back in 2021. As it should be...
I’ve made a few trades and started working on a War / Enrage deck which has been fun and I’ve been able to scrape a few wins together while getting beaten in lots of new and different ways. There’s a learning curve here but it’s a good challenge and the upside is that the cards are now super cheap so building / upgrading new playing decks is easy and affordable. All good things…
The downside is that, of course, the token price is in the toilet so the PlayToEarn aspect of the game is not really anything to write home about. I’ve managed to earn a few "Fragments" and a fraction of a GODS token but if you’re not playing the game for fun then you wouldn’t want to waste your time trying to PlayToEarn.
For me the cards I have are a Free Carry so I can trade a little and enjoy the odd battle, but I won’t be reinvesting here. It’s another game to keep in my peripheral view with a modest NFT holding in case it comes good later. I’m primarily just happy that its still running in a playable and enjoyable form.
