I’ve been away from the platform for a while due to some obligations, but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped watching anime. It’s an addiction you can’t quit once you’re hooked (although I know some people who actually have). Without further ado, let’s talk about a movie I didn’t have high hopes for, but after watching it, I found it amazing.

Blue Giant is a feature film that leaves you speechless. It tells the story of a boy who enjoyed a sport during his teenage years (basketball). However, once he heard and saw a jazz band, something inside him exploded, leading him to fall in love with a musical instrument: the saxophone. One of the most important instruments for playing the musical genre that had touched the depths of his heart—even his soul.

The Story

He loved the saxophone so much that, despite lacking talent and only taking a few basic lessons, our protagonist practiced tirelessly every single day. It didn’t matter the season: winter, summer, or anything in between. He would be outside, playing the instrument that had completely changed his mindset.

This anime carries a musical depth centered around jazz, which even for those who have no clue about music will allow them to feel every wave of sound. The story draws you in, making you internalize every moment and feel it as if it were your own, even during parts that I would call understated.

The Animation

This aspect is also on another level. It reminds me a lot of Disney’s Soul (fun fact: its story also ties in with jazz). It draws this comparison because our protagonist, while playing, enters a trance that leads to an explosion of colors. The animation bursts into a dreamlike rainbow that, personally, made me feel his passion and dedication to what he was doing.

I did some research about the animation studio and discovered they had worked on an anime I had watched before (though I left it halfway). The studio’s name is NUT, and the anime I’m referring to is Deca-Dence. It also had excellent animation, so the studio definitely delivered on the visual demands of this film.

The Music

I’ve touched on this a little, but for someone like me who usually glosses over this aspect, the music isn’t just good—it’s exceptional. This anime can’t simply be described as "good," because 50% of the entire movie revolves around listening and feeling. That means the team had to put extraordinary care into its creation and production.

I’m not a jazz enthusiast, but this film made me see that jazz is so much more than background music or a genre for casual listening. Experiencing it the way the protagonist does becomes a powerful and standout feature that, for me, was deeply moving.

Conclusion

Blue Giant immerses us in a profoundly human story, where the protagonist finds purpose in jazz and the saxophone, redefining his life. More than just a story about music, the film conveys a universal message about dedication, effort, and passion, showing how pursuing something you love can help you overcome any obstacle.

Through an emotional and visually impactful narrative, the work teaches us that no matter how much innate talent you have, true greatness comes from consistent effort and a desire to improve. The music doesn’t just accompany the plot; it acts as another character, guiding us through a rollercoaster of emotions and making every note feel as if it were part of our own story.

This anime would easily make it into my top 5 favorite anime films. I give it a 9.5/10 and believe it didn’t receive the recognition it deserved at the time. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Hola, chicos. Hace rato que estaba fuera de la plataforma por algunas ocupaciones, pero eso no quiere decir que haya dejado de ver animes. Es un vicio que no se puede dejar una vez que entras (aunque conozco a algunas personas que sí lo han dejado). Sin más que decir, hablemos de una película a la que no le tenía mucha fe, pero que, al verla, me pareció genial.

Blue Giant es un largometraje que deja sin palabras. Narra la historia de un chico al que le gustaba un deporte durante su adolescencia (el baloncesto), pero, una vez que escuchó y vio a una banda de jazz, algo dentro de él explotó, llevándolo a enamorarse de un instrumento musical: el saxofón. Uno de los instrumentos más importantes para tocar el género musical que había llegado al fondo de su corazón, incluso a su alma.

La Historia

Le gustó tanto el saxofón que, sin talento y con unas pocas clases básicas, nuestro protagonista practicaba cada día sin descanso. No importaba la estación del año: invierno, verano, cual fuera; él estaba a la intemperie tocando el instrumento que había transformado toda su mentalidad.

Este anime tiene una profundidad musical orientada al jazz, que incluso para los que no tienen idea de qué es la música, les permitirá sentir cada una de las oleadas musicales. La historia te lleva a interiorizar cada momento y sentirlo como propio, incluso en las partes que podría llamar sobrias.

La Animación

Este apartado también está a otro nivel. Me recuerda mucho a la película Soul de Disney (dato curioso: también tiene parte de su historia relacionada con el jazz). Me recuerda a Soul porque nuestro protagonista, al tocar, entra en un trance que lo lleva a una explosión de colores. Su animación explota en un arcoíris onírico que, en lo personal, al verlo, me hizo sentir esa pasión y entrega por lo que estaba haciendo.

Estuve investigando sobre su estudio de animación y descubrí que habían trabajado en un anime que había visto (aunque lo dejé a la mitad). El nombre del estudio es NUT, y el anime al que me refiero se llama Deca-Dence. También tuvo una muy buena animación, así que el estudio cumplió con las exigencias en este aspecto.

La Música

Ya he hablado un poco de esto, pero en mi caso, que generalmente paso este apartado por alto, la música no solo es buena: es excepcional. Este anime no se puede dejar simplemente como "bueno", puesto que un 50% de toda la película se centra en escuchar y sentir. Es decir, que se debía tener mucho más cuidado al crearla y producirla.

No soy un apasionado del jazz, pero esta película me hizo ver que es mucho más que un género para pasar el rato o tenerla de fondo en una recepción o un elevador. Escucharlo y sentirlo como lo hace el protagonista se convierte en un punto muy fuerte y destacado que, para mí, fue emocionante.

Conclusión

Blue Giant nos sumerge en una historia profundamente humana, donde el protagonista encuentra en el jazz y en el saxofón un propósito que redefine su vida. Más allá de ser un simple relato sobre la música, la película transmite un mensaje universal sobre la dedicación, el esfuerzo y la pasión, mostrando cómo perseguir algo que amas puede llevarte a superar cualquier obstáculo.

A través de una narrativa emotiva y visualmente impactante, la obra nos enseña que no importa cuánto talento innato tengas; la verdadera grandeza surge del trabajo constante y del deseo de mejorar. La música no solo acompaña a la trama, sino que actúa como un personaje más, guiándonos por una montaña rusa de emociones y haciéndonos sentir cada nota como si fuera parte de nuestra propia historia.

Este anime entraría en mi top 5 de películas animes favoritas, yo le doy un 9.5/10 y opino que no tuvo la valoración que debía en su momento. Se los recomiendo.

Viendo los GIF me hacen escuchar el jazz que no suena... estoy en un éxtasis mental de solo velos y recordar.
