Happy 1st of February!
I would like to congratulate everyone on surviving and possibly thriving through the LONGEST MONTH OF THE YEAR!
I myself have reached the other end of it smoldering and smoking a little.
So if you do not know what I am talking about, it is known that January is a tough month to many people since it is the first month of the year and it is after Christmas and New Years. A lot of people tend to overspend during the fastive season and end up rather broke during January.
This makes the month feel super long.
I prepared for this and squirreled away thousands of Rands so that I can handle the "back to school" vibe that happens every year. I mean, this year my middle child started High School so it was a whole set of uniforms and bags and stuff additional to the usual stationary and what-not.
Despite all my preparation there were other factors. Such as the new pre-paid electricity meter and the pre-paid water meter! And I tell you, one accidental move and you might end up losing a lot of money! A tap left open by one of the kids by mistake made my meter run dry and we woke up to zero water!
This was water that was meant to last us until the end of the week and into the new month... but it did not.
So I have a long way to go in earning money to get to a point where I feel secure. I am not a low-earner in the general scheme of things but in the world economy, even people like myself are struggling to get by on that income!
So... I want to congratulate others that found this month to be tough financially and who managed to get to today!
I hope the new month will be easier!
