"Slabs" are waves that break over a rocky or coral bottom, although not all rocky bottoms are called by this name. In a slab, the waves come from great depths and meet the shelf abruptly. The wave formation, in this case, has a very high water concentration, so they are always very heavy waves. The most well-known example of a "slab" is Teahupoo in Tahiti. The waves come from a depth of almost 2 thousand meters and hit the shelf at once. That's why we see the wave's "crest" or "lip" very thick!

In the central-southern region of the state of Espírito Santo - Brazil, we have this very characteristic formation, with more than 60 "slabs" in an extension of around 70 km, ranging from small waves to waves up to 30ft, as in the case of Avalanche. Our state has the highest concentration of these waves in Brazil, and that's what I'm going to focus on in the next posts here. I'll try to talk about all the waves and how we, the NXF Slab Team, discovered these treasures.

[PT] Primeiro, você sabe o que é um "slab" ?
"Slabs" são ondas que quebram em um fundo de pedras ou corais, porém não todos os fundos de pedra que são chamados dessa forma. No Slab, a ondulação vem de grandes profundidades, e encontram a bancada de uma maneira abrupta. A formação da onda, neste caso, tem uma concentração de água muito grande, por isso, são sempre ondas muito pesadas. O exemplo mais conhecido de "slab" é Teahupoo no Tahiti. As ondulação vêm de uma profundidade de quase 2 mil metros e encontram a bancada de uma vez. Por isso vemos a "crista" da onda ou "lip" da onda muito grosso!

Na região centro-sul do estado do Espírito Santo - Brasil, temos essa formação muito característica, com mais 60 "slabs" numa extensão em torno de 70 km, desde ondas pequenas, até ondas de até 30ft, no caso do Avalanhce. Nosso estado é o que possui a maior concentração dessas ondas no Brasil, e é sobre isso que vou direcionar os próximos posts por aqui.
