Kings Day in the Netherlands

Koningsdag (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkoːnɪŋzdɑx] ⓘ) or King's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 27 April (26 April if the 27th is a Sunday), the date marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander.[1]

Koningsdag is known for its nationwide vrijmarkt ('free market'), at which the Dutch sell their used items. It is also an opportunity for "orange madness" or oranjegekte, a kind of frenzy named for the national colour. WIKIPEDIA

Went shopping early in the week to buy something orange to wear for Kings Day.

My colleague Mazumba and I met in Amsterdam and took the train to Utrecht.

It was chaos everywhere and we settled for a hamburger for lunch - very expensive and not that great. We had a beer together and later stopped for a couple more drinks.

Would I do this again - I think not - would have been fun in my teenage years. However a boat ride would have been more comfortable as everywhere it was just too crowded.
