It's just amusing how before I did my devotion today I thought to myself, what if because today is the day of love, maybe my devotion will be about love and lo and behold, it was. I didn't plan it, I was just reading according to my plan (I'm reading the book of John and I read John 13:31-38, that's where I've reached) and boom, it talks to me about love and I was like, why not share.
In this passage, as Jesus was preparing for His death, He leaves his disciples with a commandment as He went on the cross, to love one another. Not the type of "lusty love" we know and see all the time but true love. The kind of love He showed us when He came down on earth to the extent of dying on the cross for us.
The love Jesus talks about is not as easy as we think. It can be very difficult. 1 Corinthians 4-8 gives us a glimpse of what the qualities of this love are and I bet you, it's hard. Jesus knew it wasn't going to be that easy for us to do considering all that He went through when He came; the hate and despise but He gave us this command.
Why, because that was the way to show people that we are His disciples.
Therefore as a follower of Christ, you have to love. Love your neighbours, your loved ones, your friends and even your enemies. Love all. I say this all the time, if we all showed a little amount of love, the world would be like a mini heaven.
There will be no wars, no fighting and very little suffering. There will be more compassion, care, mercy and joy everywhere. The less privileged will feel accepted in society and because of how lovely this place will be, they won't feel less privileged again.
We will have a society with so much peace and harmony. Love. Love even in the darkest times. Love even when there seems to be no hope, love when things are hard. Love can make a difference. It can change the world. Love can turn people to God.
Today is the day of love. Forgive someone today, affirm some today. Gift someone something today. Put a smile on someone's face today. Let's put negativity aside for today and try to spread love and positivity and remember, "Love conquers all".
