Recuerdo que cuando decidí estudiar Ingeniería Industrial me dedique a buscar cuáles eran las oportunidades de empleo más solicitado para ese momento. Era el año 1995, y había un auge de producción nacional, recuerdo que la carrera de ingeniería industrial tenía mucha demanda, seguido de la ingeniera en petróleo y luego la ingeniería civil.
En aquel entonces, en la ciudad de Caracas, se ofrecía esa carrera en las universidades Luis Caballero Mejía, y en la Católica Andrés Bello. En la Simón Bolívar se dictaba ingeniería en producción, cuyo pénsum era similar. Por la alta demanda de esa carrera, la selección era muy rigurosa, y el pénsum de estudio bastante exigente.
Al principio se me hizo bastante difícil, llegando en muchas ocasiones a pensar en cambiarme, pero si hay algo que me caracteriza es la disciplina y perseverancia. Los dos últimos años son los mejores, pues comenzamos a entrar en materia, y ver realmente las asignaturas que corresponden a nuestra disciplina. Una de ellas y mi favorita fue Ingeniera de Métodos, que precisamente trata de diseño, formulación y selección de los mejores métodos para llevar a cabo un proceso.
Si hoy en día me preguntan para qué sirve un ingeniero industrial, le puedo decir que es lo más parecido a medicina general, pues durante la carrera vemos casi todas las ramas de la ingeniera, haciendo mucho énfasis en la estadística.
Un profesional en esta área está en la capacidad de modelar procesos, detectar fallas, recomendar oportunidades de mejora, y ejecutar el proceso continuo de medición, teniendo en cuenta la calidad, o mejor dicho la salud de la empresa.
Recién graduada, tuve la posibilidad de trabajar en el área de consultoría de proceso, y en la analogía anterior como médicos, atendiamos las emergencias en las organizaciones. Bien sea porque están en crecimiento y requieren organizar el flujo de trabajo, establecer parámetros de medición y mejora continua, o porque hay alguna falla en algún eslabón de la cadena de producción y esto impactaba las finanzas de la empresa.
Desde entonces mi forma de percibir el mundo está en función de la mejora continua de procesos.
Buscar empleo en Venezuela
Para los profesionales que nos quedamos en Venezuela no ha sido fácil dar continuidad a nuestro ejercicio profesional, pues para nadie es un secreto que los salarios son muy bajos, y cada día son menos las áreas que requieren de no solo ingenieros, sino abogados, contadores, administradores, sociólogos, educadores y el resto de las carreras ya conocidas.
Desde hace un tiempo he estado buscando opciones de empleo, sin embargo noto con algo de tristeza que la mayoría de las páginas de empleo buscan vendedores, gerentes de tienda, markeing digital, o profesionales afines a la programación.
Cuando he dado con alguna oportunidad en mi área, que son escasas, tengo la limitación de la edad, ya que colocan un techo de 40 años, requieren experiencia casi de la NASA y salarios muy por debajo de lo que realmente vale nuestro trabajo.
La foto que coloque en la portada, la tome de la cuenta de IG @tuempleoenvenezuela, me resonó porque es cierto, muchísimo son las postulaciones a las que aplico y nada de repuesta. Pense que solo yo me sentía invisible o peor aún inservible.
Mejoremos los procesos
Al parecer todo cambia y se transforma, y las necesidades de los países y las empresas van mutando. ¿Ahora somos un país de revendedores? O pioneros en transformación digital, pero con terribles fallas en los servicios básicos?
Por ejemplo, la semana pasada se quemó un transformador en la calle donde vivo, y estuvimos 24 horas sin electricidad. Este afecto las líneas de telecomunicaciones, suministro de gas y agua. ¿Ante tal caos, que es un evento ya recurrente en mi calle, me pregunto que pasa con el mantenimiento preventivo, y planificación de urbanismo? ¿Donde está el equipo de profesionales que se hacen cargo? A veces escucho que “los buenos profesionales se fueron”, o “esto es culpa de la mala gestión de estos o aquellos”.
Los sistemas están colapsando, y las empresas del estado están contratando profesionales en maquillaje de informes de gestión, mientras las empresas privadas requieren vendedores y analistas de marketing. Viéndolo así al parecer todas las empresas en Venezuela están muy saludables.
Mejorar el proceso de reclutamiento y selección de personal hace referencia a ser respetuoso con el profesional, entendiendo que la edad y la experiencia son un enorme valor agregado, pues mucho necesitamos de tecnología, pero antes de eso se requiere tener claro los procesos y mejor aún saber resolver los problemas en un entorno de incertidumbre y constante caos.
Y mientras tanto…
Mientras pasa algo, los venezolanos nos inventamos algún emprendimiento, porque con o sin profesión la vida continua y hay que seguir llevando la comida a la mesa y pagar las cuentas. Seguimos remando en este mar de incertidumbre mientras quienes nos preparamos para solucionar los problemas de las empresas vemos como estas se derrumban ante tanto caos e incompetencia.

For some time now I have been looking for employment options, however I notice with some sadness that most of the job sites are looking for Salespeople, Store Managers, Digital Marketing, or professionals related to programming.
When I have found an opportunity in my area, which are scarce, I have the limitation of age, since they place a ceiling of 40 years, require almost NASA experience and salaries well below what our work is really worth.

The systems are collapsing, and state companies are hiring professionals to make up management reports, while private companies require salesmen and marketing analysts. In this light, it seems that all companies in Venezuela are very healthy.
Improving the process of recruitment and selection of personnel refers to being respectful with the professional, understanding that age and experience are a huge added value, because we need technology a lot, but before that it is required to be clear about the processes and even better to know how to solve problems in an environment of uncertainty and constant chaos.
