International Relations and World Peace: An aspect of international politics I am interested in studying.
In my career as a political scientist aiming to take a master's degree course, I wish to study international Relations and World Peace. I desire to see a peaceful coexistence among people of different races. For many decades, the world has not experienced peace. Wars have been constant leading to the destruction of lives and properties. These wars most times are exacerbated by world leaders who do not love peace or those who think that the only way to maintain peace is by going to war. Before now, the world would have been a better place for everyone and the generations yet unborn but the devastating effects of wars leading to the destruction of the ecosystem and wildlife has made the earth unlivable to many. Giving rise to natural and artificial disasters. This is not a good way to go
Peace is a mindset. Anyone who does not have peace within cannot broker peace in his environment. However, it is normal to have different opinions on things but when it gets to the level of running out of options but war, in the settling of such differences then there's a need for a third party to step in and mediate. Many world leaders need people who will help them in sustaining peace with one another. The world will know no peace until people who love peace ascend to the corridors of power. Looking keenly into the various wars fought by different dispensations, one will agree that it has never brought anything positive but negative. The Nigerian civil war for example lasted for three years and so many lives were lost and properties destroyed. Till death, the country still suffers the effects of the war.
Peace is so eminent because no matter the warfare, the warring sides will still need to sit at a table and talk things out. If this is the case then why spend time and resources in wars? Serving as an ambassador of peace among nations of the world would mean stepping on the feet of world leaders who see war as a means to an end. As I said earlier, the world needs peace and harmony to be able to experience development.
Beyond studying and understanding why nations of the world engage in wars, it is also pertinent to understudy world peace. To a great extent, some countries have maintained peaceful coexistence among themselves. How did they achieve this and how can they serve as an example to other countries of the world? This is also an aspect of international relations I would love to study. We live in a village made possible by globalization. If countries still engage in warfare then globalization is made a mess of. The bottom line is that globalization is supposed to bring peaceful coexistence among countries and not the other way around. The world needs peace and this can be achieved when many people give it a chance by contributing their quotas to it.
