Hello! Today I will walk you through my first experience of coordinating my godmother's and godfather's 50th wedding anniversary.
I'm a total beginner at this! I've never made a flower arrangement before, and having to create multiple of them can be a bit overwhelming!
A single visit to the venue made it clear what was needed to create a festive ambiance: three floral arrangements for the buffet table, one for the drink table, another for the welcome signage, and individual floral decorations for each table. Silk flowers will adorn the buffet tables, while fresh flowers will grace the dinner tables!
There were several local craft stores where silk or plastic flowers could be purchased. I chose the Dollar Tree and Michael's. Do you have Michael's or the Dollar Tree in your neighborhood? These two stores were lifesavers with inexpensive silk flowers. I spent just over 250 dollars on silk flowers, vases, ribbons, and fillers.
Choosing a white and gold theme was an effortless decision. White, being one of the most flexible and versatile colors, pairs beautifully with the subtle elegance of gold. The delicate golden ambiance adds a touch of sophistication, elevating the gathering for everyone.
I selected an array of silk flowers that caught my attention—vibrant roses, graceful lilies, bright sunflowers, elegant magnolias, and filler greens-to bring everything together seamlessly.
At home, I started to lay out the flowers and began removing the tags with scissors and trimming the stems with wire cutters—a somewhat challenging task since some stems were thicker than others. Then, I filled the vase halfway with decorative shreds, which are crucial for keeping the flowers securely in place.
Now comes the exciting part—arranging the flowers! I began with the larger blooms, like magnolias, lilies, and roses. While I aimed for an even distribution, I was mostly going with the flow and adjusting as I went. I frequently stepped back to check the arrangement from various angles. After that, I filled the gaps with smaller flowers and greenery. This step took the most time, as I found myself rearranging the pieces a few times until I was satisfied with the shape and overall balance.
Once I was happy with the arrangement, I added extra greenery around the base for a finishing touch. I secured the flowers with rubber bands before placing them neatly into the vase. To enhance their natural appearance, I gently fluffed some of the petals.
I added more decorative shreds, tied a ribbon around the vase's neck, and fluffed a few more petals to enhance their appearance. And with that, my custom silk flower arrangement was finished!
The next task was the signage! I thoughtfully planned how the floral accents would enhance the overall design. After experimenting with various arrangements, I settled on anchoring the flowers at the top center.
Next came the fresh flower arrangements for the individual tables—a beautiful addition, though undeniably pricey!
I chose white flowers like carnations, lilies, roses, and baby's breath, accented with ferns and eucalyptus leaves for a hint of greenery. To keep the flowers securely in place, I used wet foam as the anchor. I accidentally purchased dry foam, which doesn't retain water, and had to exchange it for wet foam.
Additionally, I kept the arrangement low to ensure guests could easily see and converse across the table.
Lastly, I had the program details printed at a print shop, while I took care of the rest myself and arranged them in frames.
Coordinating a wedding anniversary involves an endless list of details, with flowers being just one on the list.
