Cheap and delicious seafood at Barelang, Batam

During my short vacation to Batam, I and my wife planned that one of the places to go is the seafood restaurant located beneath the first Barelang Bridge. In total, there are seven bridges in Barelang. The first bridge is the favorite among tourists because of the bridge's architecture.

From the hotel to the first Barelang Bridge, it took approximately 40 minutes to travel by car. If looking at the distance, it is not that far, and logically I can arrive earlier than the navigation system has forecasted. However, the road conditions proved to be challenging.

You need to be extra vigilant because the road heading to Barelang is narrow, uneven, and riddled with potholes. Upon arriving at the bridge, we went up to the bridge to take a few photographs.

But, we stayed at the bridge for less than 15 minutes. I feel it is too dangerous to stay at the bridge longer because heavy vehicles such as lorries and buses frequently pass through the bridge.

At 6 pm, we descended the bridge and headed to the seafood restaurant. There is a parking spot in front of the restaurant. But the parking spot is limited. The other option is to park nearby the Barelang Bridge parking area which is a 5 to 10-minute walk.

Since we were early, I managed to secure a parking spot that was next to the seafood restaurant's main entrance.

I am not fond of seafood-based dishes. So for dinner, I told my wife to order any type of seafood dish that she wanted. After discussing with the kids, she decided to order one kilogram of crab, half a kilogram of prawn, and one pot of sea snail.

At first, I thought the seafood that we ordered was not enough to feed 4 people. But I was wrong, the crab and prawn has made our stomachs full. We ate our dinner while enjoying the beautiful sunset view.

In total, I was charged IDR320k (MYR105) for the dishes. It was surprisingly cheap for the amount of seafood that we ordered. If this were in Kuala Lumpur, the bill would easily be around MYR350 to MYR450
