The Miracle Club begins by introducing us to its main protagonists who reside in 1967 in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Dublin, as they go about their quiet, routine lives.

Lily (Maggie Smith) frequently comes by to lay flowers for her son Declan Fox who drowned in the sea four decades ago at the age of 19.

Then Chrissie (Laura Linney) arrives in the neighborhood to attend the funeral and burial of a close relative, having left forty years ago to live in the United States.

Her surprise arrival coincides with the celebration of the Holy Cross Talent Contest organized by the priest Dermot (Mark O'Halloran).

The most coveted prize is a trip to Lourdes to visit its Basilica, with the hope and illusion of witnessing a miracle.

A dramatic comedy tone is immediately apparent from the script based on a story by Jimmy Smallhorne, which portrays the small community eager to break out of the inertia of their bland lives.

The plot focuses on the emotions and complex relationships between its characters, which it dissects in a measured way as the action progresses.

Different anecdotes feed the plot of this contained drama where the main protagonists are women, who live in the shadow of a traditional, religious and bland community, well set and portrayed.

The editing of El club de los milagros is well paced, although in its first sequences it suffers from a lack of precision, which creates a certain confusion of characters, which later, fortunately, if we pay the necessary attention, becomes clearer and clearer.

It is an acceptable film in its good intentions, but without shining beyond its complacency with an appreciative audience predisposed to the action and thematic that announces the title of the film.

The final twist of the plot leaves a sweetish aftertaste that can become a bit tiresome to viewers, who would have liked a less good-natured approach with a more elaborate ending.
