Don't argue, get others to say yes

in voilk •  5 months ago

Many individuals dislike being told "no," leading to a passion for arguments. Disagreeing about matters that do not coincide with our perspective is common, as we despise having our egos trampled upon. While it is obvious that arguments do not solve anything, they tend to complicate issues, particularly when faced with rejection. We are more interested in expressing our views and opposing others.

In many cases, individuals find themselves surrounded by unreasonable people which makes it difficult for them to win arguments. This is why businesses often seek to hire competent individuals with good interpersonal skills. During the hiring process, applicants may be asked questions such as how they would handle difficult situations and communicate effectively with others. This is done to test the applicant's ability to handle challenging situations, as arguments and conflicts can hinder productivity and complicate issues in a business setting.

Because we disagree with each other's point of view, it doesn't mean we shouldn't listen to each other.

Many of us have the tendency to disagree with other people without listening to what they have to say. We often prioritize expressing our own beliefs over understanding theirs, and this is a common trait among most individuals. However, it is crucial to listen to others, particularly in business settings where customers may not always be right. Refusing to listen can lead to further complications and misunderstandings. It is also worth noting that some people simply want to feel heard and acknowledged, and lending an ear can go a long way in making them feel valued.

A few years ago, I had a problem with one of Nigeria's top delivery companies. My package was delayed, and I was frustrated. I planned to cause a scene when I got there. However, upon arrival, I was met with a calm and attentive receptionist who patiently explained the situation to me. I was so taken aback that I could only respond with "yes." Since that day, I have learned the valuable skills of active listening and persuasive communication.

Listen and agree with them and let them say ‘yes’

It's important to listen to people and understand their perspectives. If we immediately disagree without giving them a chance to speak, it can be difficult to resolve any differences. By listening, we may find common ground and be able to come to an agreement. It's also important to be open to others' viewpoints and be willing to consider them.

In business, it is important to prioritize your customer's opinions even if you disagree with them. If you simply make them say no, it creates a negative environment and they may not return. Instead, try to explain your perspective and get them to say yes. This will make it easier to convey your point of view and build a positive relationship. Remember, it's always better to listen and get people to say yes rather than making them say no.
