Tuesday already, whew!
We had a busy Monday attending an uncle's wake, spending the late afternoon with my old folks, and then driving back home after a quiet dinner down the valley. Woke up late today after a not-so-restful night due to bad dreams throughout the night.
Anyhow, in the spotlight today for the Three Tune Tuesday is Faouzia (Fawziya), a 24-year-old Morrocan-Canadian artist who released several singles and had collaborations with other musicians before releasing her debut.
I discovered about her prowess today while searching for songs related to nightmares. Her first song below came up at the top of 3 results so I gave it a quick listen and whoa! Her voice is quite powerful that she got me all ears! Let's play three of her songs and hope to hear what you have to say about them :)
Faouzia - Bad Dreams
She was 18 on this video and I learned that she started having an interest in music at a very young age which is amazing!
Her passion for music began at the age of four when she watched her sister Samia playing the piano, wishing she could learn how to play it. She began writing songs and poems when she was five years old and playing piano at the age of six. She later studied how to play guitar and violin.¹
At the age of 15, she won the Song of the Year, the Audience Award, and the Grand Prix at the 2015 La Chicane Éléctrique. The story goes further that she started posting her covers and songs on YT that led to her signing a contract with the Paradigm Talent Agency.²
She also collaborated with French DJ David Guetta (Battle) and John Legend (Minefields) in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
Faouzia - Tears of Gold
According to Wiki, Faouzia is best known for this track. She mentioned that the song is about giving her all for a friendship that didn't give anything back yet she still kept giving anyway.
This recording is part of her first Extended Play 'Stripped' in 2020 which contained 6 songs (5 of them including this was previously released and one new track).
She was one of the recipients of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards in 2020. Awesomeness!
Faouzia - This Mountain
This is another song that was released in 2018. Apart from the upbeat tempo and awesome choreography, I find the lyrics of this song to be captivating and inspiring. It talks about challenges, falling over, getting back up, and pushing forward.
SourceAin't that some strong or intense message out of a song? Faouzia's music style has a dramatic mix of catchy and fun pop, acoustic, and R&B. I listened to most of her other songs and I feel her Stripped Extended Play showcased her strong voice.
