A New Journey

Dreams are ambitions. It takes a few steps to turn your dream into reality. Most times it might take a while to accomplish that dream but you just need effort and hard work to make it work. Most times you need finances as well because we all dream big. Apart from Effort, hard work, and finances, there is a thing called consistency. There could be so many times you would feel like giving up on your said dreams but you just need to be consistent.

Last year I wanted to go into the world of tech as a UI/UX Designer but then I had several restrictions. I didn’t have a laptop and I also needed to register for my classes. Without getting these things ready I was sure that my dream was only going to remain a dream, so I had to put an effort into raising money to get these things available so I could begin my journey into the world of designing.

Finally, I was able to join Hive and then I was able to save up and get my laptop around January 2024. I was super excited and after getting the laptop I immediately got to work with my learning. I registered to study UI/UX design using Coursera. This particular Learning has 4 courses under it which would take 3-6 months to finish. I also had several learning materials like my ChatGPT and YouTube where I could go for research. My mentor and friend have also contributed to helping me out wherever I found it difficult to understand.

I started with the First Course which deals based on UI which is User Interface and how it works. Week 1 of my course was just an introduction and test. I was given my first practical assignment after the week 2 class, where I was asked to design a mood board for an app I would love to design. That’s where the issue started. I had no idea how to go about it and I was confused about what app to use. My mentor advised that I use Figma since it is easier for beginners like me. I spent hours learning how to use Figma and then I was able to draft my mood board for my desired app.

In week 3 I was asked to design a button and get icons and elements which I will use for my static app design. I did some learning on YouTube and I was finally able to design my button and also learn how to get icons on Figma. All these were new to me since I am a novice in designing but I enjoyed every bit of it.

Week 4 appears to be the last week for my course 1 after which we were asked to design a static app. Any app for our choice that matches our mood board and also the icons and elements we picked. This was where I felt like oh the work has started. I was able to learn lots of things this time and I finally was able to do my static design. It took me days to do it but finally, I was able to do it.

I submitted my assignment afterwards and then I got graded. Well, I got a great review from my peers and also from my mentor. I was given my certificate for Course 1 and now I am on to the next stage Course 2 of UI/UX design. It’s been fun, stressful, and challenging but in all, there is no giving up as I am sure I will be able to get through this successfully and turn my dream of being a UI/UX designer into reality.
