    Saturday my best day

I feel you on Saturday being the favorite day of the week. Growing up, those school days during the week felt like a nonstop grind - waking up mad early, rushing to class, then coming home beat in the evenings with barely any time to actually live a little, you know?

Saturdays were like a sacred oasis though, that one day where you could finally breathe and just BE for a bit without the pressures of school looming over you. No alarms going off at the crack of dawn, no homework to stress over, no teachers barking orders - just pure freedom to kick it however you wanted.

For me and my guys back then, Saturdays were all about making the most of that limited free time away from the classroom. We'd wake up relatively late (at least by kid standards!), then quickly sync up the troops to map out how we were gonna live it up that day.

Sometimes it was as simple as hitting the neighborhood basketball courts or park if the weather was nice out. We'd be out there shooting rounds and talking trash from sun-up to sun-down, not a care in the world except trying to get that W over the other crew.

Other times, we'd pool together our kiddie hustles and negligible allowances to hit the movies or sneak into the mall arcade low-key. Didn't matter if we had just enough quarters to last an hour - that was still an hour of escaped bliss from our usual routines.

And you already know on the rare occasions one of our parents felt generous enough to give us some actual spending money, we were balling to the nines! Hitting up the local pizza spot, arcade, MAYBE even catching a movie if we budgeted properly. Those were like the superior Saturdays reserved for only the most elite celebrations.

But even the most modest, broke Saturdays spent grinding pickup games at the park or dangling at the boys & girls club hit different, Just having that freedom to move at our own pace with no schedules or restrictions made everything feel way more fun and fulfilling.

It was our sacred oasis away from the classroom grind where we could actually experience life as kids, not just exist as students constantly adhering to bells and strict regimens. Those Saturdays were everything!

Sundays were cool too in their own way since it was still the weekend. But there was always this anxious energy surrounding them since you knew bright and early Monday was coming right around the corner again to body-slam you back to reality.

Not Saturdays though! From sunrise to sunset, that specific day was ours to be present, live a little recklessly but responsibly, and just enjoy that childlike freedom every kid is meant to experience. No teachers, no homework, no strict schedules - just laughs, boldly decisions, and making priceless memories however we saw fit.

Even now, long after trading in the stresses of school for the hustle of adulting, part of me still feels that lingering magic surrounding Saturdays. It's like no matter how overwhelming the work week gets, I know I can look forward to that one rejuvenating day to completely unwind and be at peace without any expectations.

So yeah, Saturdays will forever hold a special place in my heart. That day represented the ultimate youth freedom so many of us craved while having our lives dictated to us by school authorities and rigid routines. Saturday set us kids loose to reign again, if only for a brief moment each week before the cycle repeated itself.
