    What Is GHAWG?

#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

    Zapfic Entries 422-428

    4️⃣2️⃣2️⃣ 2024-April-14 01:58:36

Today we went for 120 miles again. We rode 99 miles past Newkirk, Montoya, Tucumcari, San Jon, and Glenrio before we reached the malformed Texas panhandle. 22 miles into Texas we reached the Midway Point of Route 66 near Adrian.
🏍️ So far, Our Heroes-- currently configured as as the smaller and more mobile Felix Legion-- have traveled Old Route 66 east through California, Arizona, and New Mexico. Tucumcari is the most picturesque of the towns named in this zapfic entry, but Felix Legion had no reason to stop there. Glenrio is very close to the state lines between New Mexico and Texas. The Texas panhandle is malformed in comparison to the Oklahoma panhandle directly above it to the north. Depending on how Old Route 66 was routed before it was superseded by various roads of the Einsenhower Insterstate System which began construction in 1956, Midway Point may be 1,000 miles or 1,200 miles the total length of Old Route 66.

    4️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ 2024-April-15 11:30:12

After a night at the Midpoint Campground, we rode 40 miles to Amarillo (the Spanish word for the color yellow). McLean was the next town we saw, just at the 120-mile mark of our ride. We camped overnight by the golf course.
🏍️ As one looks at the lyrics to the song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66)" while traveling west from Chicago to Los Angeles, the lyrics say Amarillo / Gallup, New Mexico. That's more than the width of New Mexico, and driving distance covered between these two points is about 423 miles.

🏍️ I didn't see any place on the digital map where I could let the story unfold on its own during this zapfic entry and the previous one, so these are simply travel entries.

For now, GHAWG and Rat Bikepause at this point. The next few entries will be to fill gaps from earlier in the story. This will also be the case next week and maybe the week after until I can get the story in motion again. If I notice that I'm trying to force a story which shouldn't be made, then I'll simply go with the flow and use what the digital maps give me to let the story unfold naturally.

    4️⃣2️⃣4️⃣ 2024-April-16 02:20:48 (Act 3 after entry 110)

    "Who're you guys?" I asked.

    "Hank Marchenko."

    "Frank Marchenko."

"Besides sports betting," I asked, "what do you do?"

"We own a custom motorcycle shop in Cedar Rapids," said Frank.

"We do cutting-edge projects," said Hank.
🏍️ At the time I introduced Hank & Frank into GHAWG, after Rhonda Bella met David Guardia but before they reach STURGIS, I referred to them simply as two brawlers. This zapfic entry served as a more formal introduction to the Brothers Marchenko (also known here as The Twins).

    4️⃣2️⃣5️⃣ 2024-April-17 11:09:51 (Act 3 after entry 110A)

"Is that a Victory?" Hank Marchenko asked.

    "Yes it is," Rhonda confirmed.

"Spare parts are hard to come by these days," said Frank Marchenko.

    "You're telling me."

"If necessary," began Hank," we can 3-D print parts for you."
🏍️ This continues the previous zapfic entry in two ways. It allows Rhonda Bella to interact with The Twins more than she had when they first met, and it explains the situation with Victory motorcycles as of the year 2028. 2016 was the final year Polaris would manufacture Victory motorcycles (opting to continue with more historical brand it had acquired, Indian motorcycles), and 2026 was to be the last year when spare parts would be in stock at authorized dealers. Now Rhonda has a way to continue ownership of her motorcycle.

    4️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ 2024-April-18 00:37:45 (Act 1 after entry 9)

"I saw the sign in the window," said the pudgy guy before me. "I'd like to start working A.S.A.P."

    "What's your name?"

    "Li Jun Fan."

"How well do you know Hudson County?"

    "I live in Jersey City."

    "Here's your yellow vest."
🏍️ This zapfic entry is a more formal introduction of the character known as "Slim," one of the earliest supporting characters introduced in GHAWG back in March 2023.

🏍️ New York City, located east of the Hudson River, consists of 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Thr Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island). Hudson County, in New Jersey and located west of the Hudson River, can be considered "the 6th borough of NYC" given its transit connections to NYC. Several towns and cities are part of Hudson County, including Bayonne and Jersey City to its north. As a motorcycle courier, David Guardia (and at this point Li Jun Fan) work on both sides of the Hudson River.

    4️⃣2️⃣7️⃣ 2024-April-19 00:27:48 (Act 6 after entry 254)

"I love you, mother. Good bye."

"Are things OK, Sanjay?" asked Lindsay.

"Yes they are, thank you," he began. "She was updating me on details for our wedding."

    "You're getting married?"

"The marriage was arranged years ago."
🏍️ This zapfic entry takes place 6 days after Lindsay Exteberria leaves the far-left activist life behind in Portland, Oregon, US to become part of Our Heroes (and later an integral member of Felix Legion). It's meant to introduce a seed of conflict between her and Sanjay Rampersad later in Rat Bike. Although this conflict can blow up at any time, my hangup is finding the circumstances when this conflict can be ended, one way or another. This is because I have them in mind for both Blue Lion and The Bronze.

    4️⃣2️⃣8️⃣ 2024-April-20 00:09:12 (Act 6 after entry 254A)

"What's her name?" Lindsay asked Sanjay, looking slightly perturbed.

"Rekha Ramakrishnan. We're to be married after I earn my MBA here."

    "Do you love her?"

    "She'll make a wonderful mother."

    "But do you love her?"

    "In time."
🏍️ This is a continuation of the previous zapfic entry. It shows how Lindsay has acquired an attactment for Sanjay, and it's also to show what Sanjay thinks of his upcoming marriage. Even to this day, arranged marriages are still common in India, and it is an institution which works for both husband and wife (not to mention their families). As far as Sanjay is concerned, his upcoming arranged marriage is simply part of his life.

Our Heroes, recently reconfigured as the reduced and more mobile Felix Legion, cross into Texas and reach the "midway point" of Old Route 66, but not before passing Amarillo, Texas, US along the way.
