Happy new year friends, welcome to my blog. I've been away from here for a while now, not that I wanted to but commitment plenty 😅. I just hope this year I'll be able to show up more.
"You know say this na our community and we suppose support and carry am for head like gala, lol"
The year started well for me and I'm filled with hope and anticipation that it will end well too. Yes, I envision this year bringing me loads of good things, but
the best thing that could happen to me this year is for this long-held dream of mine to be achieved. That is owning a piece of land.
Right from my school days, I've been fascinated by the importance of owning property whether of land or building. It's a desire that has only grown stronger with time. In my region, it's unfortunate that women rarely acquire land or build houses. The mindset that women don't own property is pervasive, even those who break the barriers to own one are often termed 'stubborn' or 'too independent,' reflecting the deeply ingrained societal norms that discourage women from taking control of their financial futures and owning assets in their own right.
It's even worse when women are excluded from inheriting family lands and buildings. The male siblings will get shares of their father's properties while the females get none. When you challenge that what you'll hear is "Women don't inherit property, they inherit husbands."
This points that women's roles can only be defined by their relationships with men, rather than their individual rights and autonomy. What an archaic, absurd mindset that not only perpetuates inequality but also denies women their rightful place as property owners and decision-makers.
This and other realities fuel my determination to challenge the status quo. I have "dreamed, redream and I dream" of owning a piece or plots of land - a quarter plot, perhaps – in my name, purchased with my hard-earned money. 😅. This achievement would not only be a personal triumph but also a testament to the power of hard work or smart work like some call it, and perseverance.
Why Owning Property Matters to Me
For me, owning a piece of land is more than just a material possession; it's a symbol of
- Independence
- Security
- Legacy and
- Empowerment.
Independence
I want to make a difference, to be part of a new generation of women who are breaking barriers and challenging traditional norms.
I want to inherit husband and own property too. 😂
I equally want to be a role model for other women - to show them that it's possible to attain financial independence and security through property ownership. To inspire them to take control of their financial futures and build the lives they deserve.
Security
With a land at my disposal, the possibilities are endless - I can build a thriving business or create my dream home. Oh la la!
No be bad thing to become landlady o. 😂
With this, I'll enjoy home security and peace of mind. I won't have to depend on agents for where to live or worry about landlords, rent increases, or eviction notices. I'll be able to live my life without the burden of someone else's rules or expectations. You and I know what we suffer in the hands of some unscrupulous and malevolent agents and landlords.
Legacy
Again, owning a piece of land is a great way to build equity, invest in my future, and possibly even earn passive income if I decide to rent or lease the land.
The property would benefit not only me but my loved ones and future generations. It would provide us with security and stability for years to come.
Empowerment
Having a tangible asset like land can provide financial stability, opportunities, and freedom – ultimately empowering individuals to achieve their goals.
I recall my best friend's experience when she planned traveling abroad. She ran out of funds, but fortunately, she had invested in plots of land before her marriage. She sold a portion of the land, using the proceeds to complete her travel papers. Today, she's living abroad.
If she didn't own that land, her journey might have been delayed or even financed through loans.
There are more reasons owning a piece of land is so paramount to me but I'll end with these.
As I look to the future, I'm filled with a sense of purpose and determination. If this dream can become a reality this year, it would be nothing short of extraordinary. It would definitely be the ultimate game changer for me, and the start of a new chapter in my life, the foundation for future success and happiness.
It won't be easy, that I know, but I'm charged to face the challenges head-on. Every day, I'll endeavor to work harder, to grind, and to push beyond my limits.
